Blog reader Peter Lenaers has been traveling through Asian countries with his friend Sam for many years and those trips invariably ended with a week in Thailand. They had quite a few friends in Thailand and during one of those trips they went with one of them to visit his parents, somewhere in a village far outside of Bangkok.

Peter describes what they experienced there in the story below

Fake tickets or not?

We met his father while visiting the parents of one of our Thai friends. He told that he had an old house in his garden at the very end, in which, according to him, spirits lived. He occasionally came to get inspiration to collect a certain number for when he went to buy lottery tickets.

We went to take a look at that haunted house with the father and some Thai friends. My traveling friend Sam put a hand on a tree that stood by the house. He asked if he could see the last tickets purchased. He held the lottery tickets against the tree, put his hand on it, and his reaction was that the lottery tickets were worthless and even fake tickets. As proof he pointed to his hand and everyone could feel that that hand felt very cold.

What the Thai people didn't know, but I did, was that Sam's hand was always cold, because nerves had been hit during an operation in the past and therefore the blood flow was no longer working properly.

The father and the other Thai people became angry that fake lottery tickets had been sold to them and he vowed never to buy lottery tickets from the seller of these lottery tickets again. The father drummed up all the people in the neighborhood to feel Sam's hand to convince them that they too should not buy lottery tickets from the seller in question.

But we knew better!

Very recognizable. An acquaintance of mine once had a "girlfriend" who worked at a bar in Pattaya. He had told a few things about her and showed a picture of her. I then went for a drink at that bar and said I was a palm reader. I took her hand and told her some personal things. In response, the other ladies from the bar also came to me to read their hand. Then quickly told my "secret".

it's even worse now, you have the official "state" lottery. you have an illegal lottery that also works on the same numbers as the state lottery.
But new is if you save every month at the Rozebank (bank for Agriculture) you also get a lottery ticket.

Superstitions, and indeed any belief, are amazing to the people who don't believe in them.

With a friend we once went to his girlfriend's family and played the game "sniffing cards"
The card grabber works with another person and in this case with me.
The cards are exposed and someone finger picks a card while the card reader looks the other way.
The card reader smells every card and I wiggle my toe when I find the right card. Build a show around it and ensure success.
Victor Mids should make a program in Thailand.

Hi Johny, we were in Thailand in 2018. Exactly the same program came on TV there with a Thai man who presented exactly the same thing. We were amazed because everything was the same except Victor

And this is how you make an honest lot of sellers without a living...
