Landed on a tropical island: I'll write it off…..

I've been in the Netherlands for a few months now and haven't been fit at all the last few days.
Actually kind of sick.
What started as a coughing fit with a sore throat, turned out to be a virus that hit me so hard that I was in a daze last weekend.

Self-test done: no corona

And tired I was.

And sleep I did.

And eat fruits.

And absorb vitamin D.

But get better.

Still, consult your doctor.
Do you first come to the assistant: "Have you already done a corona test?"

Because the drugstore's test doesn't count, I have to have an official GGD test done.
Done; still no corona.
Suddenly a lot of headaches, it even woke me up.
Just call us for an appointment.

So that doesn't seem so easy; when I tell the assistant my story for the second time, she says that the GP will call me back.

Why, I want to see a doctor!

Maybe I'm a bit overwrought.
I rarely visit a doctor. I just want to briefly explain my personal situation and
get blood drawn, because I've never been sick that long.
Rule out something serious going on.

In times of corona, the protocols turn out to be different, I don't get an appointment.

The doctor calls me.

Asks what's wrong.

For the third time I explain the complaints and tell them that I would like to drop by to discuss a few things.

Well, that turns out to be difficult. I may not have corona, but I still have a cold so contagious, and then I can't come.

Besides, being sick for 10 days isn't that long.

Ooh

Can I get a blood test then?

No, because the person who draws blood could in theory also be made ill by me, because I am still contagious after all.

First take a good look.

When I don't have a cold anymore, I'm very welcome.

Well, then I'll be better and then I won't go to the doctor anymore.

An emotional conversation ensues and it takes me some time to sort it out.

Dissatisfied, I hang up. I'll fix it myself.

What a mess.

The telephone conversation with the doctor helped me because I seem to have the energy to vacuum the car.

It can also be pure chagrin.

Vacuuming a car is a lousy job, but cleaning is enlightening and my mind wanders.

I think back to the annual doctor visit in Thailand. That time when I first came there without the Kuuk.

I was there to arrange the health clearance for extending my visa.

The same young female doctor as the year before did the consultation.

She had then checked the Kuuk and insisted on a visit to the doctor when he would be in NL.

She asked about him. I told her what had happened and when it all got a bit too much for me, she got up and gave me a hug, so special.

A cry and an hour and a half of vacuuming later I have pain in my back.

Ho is ff.

That's not contagious.

I think I'll call the doctor for an appointment.

Els, that's called a polder dip! No doctor can help you with that; a travel agency. You just have to be in Thailand! People recover from that.

I am now also in NL and sometimes have a day when throat and nose tease me. Then I grab a good book and against the wet nose the jar of Vicks. In the evening a bubble of wine. Hey, come on!

    Dear Els,

Come back to Thailand soon, no fuss with protocols here. Go to the hospital with your complaints and the doctor will receive you immediately. And listens to you. Only if you have to go through all kinds of investigations do they first do a Corona test.
I have recently experienced and have now received excellent help.
Good luck and get well soon!

Still, I doubt whether a covid test is not desirable, when the complaints can indicate covid.
In the Netherlands, the doctor comes to your home dressed in protective clothing, face shield, mask and gloves.
Thailand unfortunately does not feature in the top 50 best hospitals worldwide.
umc utrecht at nr 20 and amc amsterdam at nr 40.
Perhaps a lot of attention and a friendly look makes up for a lot and rose-colored glasses also do a lot of good.
personally I have already visited several hospitals and always an excellent service.
Even nurses who wanted to have dinner with me in the evening.
      Priceless for many Thai people.

Thank you Els and good luck! You are right, that going to the doctor is of little use if you are no longer sick…
