Elvis Presley in Thailand

In my younger years, Elvis Presley was one of my idols, so not the idol, but one of. I have also seen a number of his films, which I mainly watched because of the hits he sang.

The story of the film was usually not that much. He was supplanted by The Beatles, Rolling Stones and other artists in the early XNUMXs, but if his name is mentioned anywhere, it still piques my interest.

Elvis Aloha in Phuket

Elvis Presley is still imitated by many (pseudo) artists. On the website of Coconuts Bangkok I just read an article about a special concert that was recently given in Phuket by some Elvis impersonators, “Elvis Aloha”!

With the article a video, about those artists, who came from Thailand and several neighboring countries. I had hoped that the video would show the singers singing, but it has become mainly a talk show. Have a look at the website yourself: bangkok.coconuts.co/video-elvis-impersonators-invade-phuket and agree with me that the singing of these well-meaning old men is not really much.

Colin de Young

Here in Pattaya we have our own “Elvis Presley”, the Dutchman Colin de Jong, whom I – especially for Pattayans – hardly need to introduce. Colin has many merits and one of them is his singing ability. He has performed as Elvis Presley for years, including in his own bar in Jomtien. Now that he is no longer the youngest, he only performs on special occasions at the request of family and/or friends. If Colin had performed in Phuket I'm sure he would have left all the "competitors" in the shadows, but Colin had something much more important to do.

Canadian daughter

You may have read the article on this blog at the beginning of June about a woman from Canada, who after 46 years succeeded in finding her natural father in Pattaya: yes, Colin de Jong! Please read the story again:: www.thailandblog.nl/opmerkelijk/canadese-vindt-nederlandse-vader-pattaya

The contact between father and daughter has now taken place in Pattaya, where Colin has given her an unforgettable holiday. One of the highlights was a big party for her, where many friends and acquaintances of Colin were present. Of course Colin performed as Elvis Presley again and sang a specially written version of "Endless Love" Below the video of the tribute to his daughter.

a fun fact. The current king of Thailand was friends with Elvis. They met in the 50s and 60s when the king was studying abroad. I wasn't there myself, but I did see pictures of the two together.

We own the photo. In large and original we have seen in a hotel in Phuket.
It was from the movie GI blues. Also in Chiang Mai in the Mae Ping hotel they sometimes have Elvis nights.
We should know my husband is a huge Elvis fan. And we have many collectible items in our possession.
