After an exceptionally rainy autumn in the Netherlands, many people choose to travel to sunny places during the Christmas period. Travel organizations are experiencing a significant increase in bookings, with a preference for distant holiday destinations such as Thailand.

A recent survey shows that 15% of Dutch people have plans to spend Christmas elsewhere, which is an increase compared to last year. Many people are looking for warmer destinations.

Travel organizations such as Corendon and TUI report a striking increase in bookings to destinations such as Curaçao, the ABC Islands, the Dominican Republic, Gambia, Dubai and the Canary Islands. Corendon speaks of 80% more bookings during the Christmas period and a general increase of 50% for the entire winter. TUI experiences a 60% increase in bookings to Cape Verde.

Although Egypt is experiencing a decline in popularity, travel organizations are seeing an increase in bookings to this country for winter sun holidays, thanks to the attractive prices and sun guarantee. Long-haul destinations are also becoming popular again after the pandemic, despite initial hesitation and travel restrictions.

According to Skyscanner, destinations such as Bangkok, Istanbul, Málaga, Bali and Dubai are very popular with Dutch people who want to escape the cold. Riksja Travel reports a doubling in bookings to Thailand and South Africa.
