Dear Martin,

I suffer from constipation a lot. Am 60 years old, 178 and 88 kilos. Blood pressure 95/135.

On average 2x a week I have serious problems with bowel movements, which in turn results in hemorrhoids. I eat 2 pieces of fruit every day, eat wholemeal bread and plenty of vegetables. Drink at least 3 liters of water per day and 4 liters in hot weather. Walk for 30 minutes every day and work in the garden for an hour a day.

The pharmacy here gave me ducolax and it does indeed work. However, I am afraid that my body will get used to this if I take a tablet daily.

Can you provide some explanation about this.

Thank you in advance

Regards,

F.

Dear F,

Constipation is an annoying complaint. If it occurs suddenly, after bowel movements have always been normal before, it is important to have an intestinal examination done.
If you have had this for a long time, the first thing to do is to relax on the toilet. See the following folder for this: https://folders.slingeland.nl/folders/folder-1135.html

If it doesn't work out, you can always call on Duphalac for help. One teaspoon after each meal and before bed. Duphalac is made on a fiber basis.

Dulcolax is a drug that can cause habituation. Therefore, do not use it more than once a week. The same applies to senna preparations.

Hemorrhoids mainly occur when straining. Therefore, take your time on the toilet. The birthday calendar used to hang there and some people even had half a library.
Do not use toilet paper, but the toilet shower.

I hope you find this information useful.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Maarten
