Dear Martin,
Have one more little question for you. Is it normal that I experience so much pain during the treatment and especially when they insert the gauze? I'm quite used to pain, 2 heavy back operations spondolysis and stuck on l4 l5, cluster headache and that Aneurysm operation, but this takes the cake.
Is or can I do something about this?
Regards,
W.

Dear W,
It's not normal, so much pain. However, the site of the fistula and the surgical area are very sensitive.
Before inserting the gauze, they could inject a little lidocaine into the wound. That numbs. Ask for a somewhat strong painkiller, such as tramadol. Be careful, because it's an opiate.
That pain should subside. If not, they should take a picture to see if any gauze from the operation is still in place.
If you have more questions, no problem.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Maarten
