The Thai restaurant Boo Raan in Knokke-Heist has been awarded its first Michelin star. The female Thai chef, Dokkoon Kapuea, is completely blown away. “We really didn't expect it,” says business manager Patrick De Langhe instead.
“The whirlwind of flavors from the northeast of Thailand”: this is how Michelin describes the restaurant Boo Raan from Knokke-Heist. Manager Patrick De Langhe: “Taste is our core business. We try to offer our customers an experience of flavors they may have tasted while travelling. We now receive a Michelin star for this. It's fantastic."
On the website of the Michelin guide we read the following:
“Boo Raan is the best Thai restaurant in the Benelux. The bustling atmosphere of this exotic establishment immediately prompts you to take a seat as you drool over the menu. Dokkoon Kapueak prepares authentic dishes to order in the open kitchen. A festival of fresh ingredients, spices, bliss and many flavors explains why Boo Raan is such an established name locally and nationally.”

Many critics who are so disparaging about simple Thai cuisine are clearly put in their place here as if Thai cuisine were nothing compared to Western cuisine!
It is not because the preparation is simple that the taste of Thai cuisine cannot be valuable. Witness the Michelin star!!!
I once heard that Tina Turner, an undemanding Grande dame by the way, should have the option of Thai Food available at any hour of the day at any performance of hers! So a true fan of Thai Food…
Also to inform you that many Thai dishes are regularly discussed here on this site and I, who know a lot of Thai dishes, still marvel at many dishes that I do not yet know.
CONGRATULATIONS to the initiators.
A big congratulations to this Thai lady for her daily commitment. You don't get a star as a gift, you have to work for that.
Being lucky also counts in life. Do have my reservations about a few things. Apparently the law is not equally strict for all people.
How great!!
I will definitely visit this restaurant, even though it is a 2 hour drive from my place of residence, but this is where I have to go.

This is good news!
Not only for the mentioned restaurant but for all of Thailand!
Congratulations!
Dokkoon was a guest in the program De Afspraak, last night on Belgian TV. All to see. She told how she learned the cooking from her grandmother, came to Knokke at the age of 18, worked in a massage parlor for a year, and was asked by a restrictive American for him and his guests. This was in very good taste and was the start of a new career. From her earnings she now sponsors a school in her former village.
