Dear Martin,

Am a man of 69 years, 71 kg, 178 cm tall, blood pressure 129/66, pulse rate 68 per minute. I hardly use any alcohol.

Medication use:

-Anapril20 for high blood pressure and
-Zimmex20 against high cholesterol.

I take 1 pill of both per day, in the morning after breakfast and in the evening.

I drink about 2 liters of water per day.

At night I have to go to the toilet at least 2 times to urinate: that seems to be part of getting older. My problem is that I often suffer from involuntary urine leakage in bed at night and I usually don't notice it until it's too late. Sometimes that is just a few drops, but often more.

Are there medicines for this problem and if so, which medicine do you recommend?

Thank you in advance for your advice.

Yours faithfully,

K.

Specifications,

You could try replacing the Anapril with Doxazosin (in the morning). Keep an eye on your blood pressure, which can be a bit higher, by the way.
It is best to start the doxazosin with 1 mg and then slowly increase it to 4 mg. This is because of the rapid drop in blood pressure that can occur, which can make you feel dizzy. If this does not happen to you during the first three days, then 1 mg more, etc. up to 4 mg.

You can then reduce the Anapril at the same rate by 5 mg. You may omit the Zimmex. That will improve your cholesterol, but not you.

Stop drinking two hours before going to sleep.

I also recommend doing pelvic floor gymnastics. https://www.antoniusziekenhuis.nl/exercise-for-bekkengrond

To be on the safe side, you can have your urine checked for a bladder infection

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Maarten
