Dear Martin,

Am 67 years old weigh about 80 kilos and 175 long blood group B negative. To my great dismay, she discovered an Aneurysm (AAA) 5 cm in me, which I was treated last Sunday March 17th at the local hospital in Ubon Ratchatani Ubonrak Thonburi. Everything went well.

During the operation, the doctor also saw that my appendix was very enlarged and inflamed, so he immediately removed it. Sitting or lying at home now to recover or heal with 60 cramps in my stomach. Now have the meds:

  • 3 x daily AIR-X 80 MG
  • Metronidazole 3 mg 400 times a day
  • Ciprofloxacin 2 mg twice a day
  • 1 x daily arCoxia 90 mg
  • 1 x daily Simvastatin 20 mg Fybogel Sachet after breakfast and dinner

I had already stopped smoking rarely drink my eating habits adjusted less fat and animal. Just keep having a lot of problems with the stool problem, do you have a recommendation for that or what I could do to alleviate that?

Regards,

Willem

Dear W,

Fortunately, so far everything has gone well. Curious, by the way, an appendicitis as a coincidental finding.

As for your stool, the following. If there is loose stools, the antibiotics and the Fybogel may be a cause. If you suffer from constipation, you should drink a lot and I advise you to take the fibrogel 4 times a day, after meals and before going to sleep. Incidentally, the antibiotics (Metronidazole and Ciprofloxacin) can also cause constipation.

Furthermore, it seems wise to take Omeprazole before breakfast in connection with the Arcoxia. Then you can omit the AIR-X. It doesn't do anything anyway. You can replace the Arcoxia with Soproxen 2×300 after eating. It's so cheap. Paracetamol is also allowed. I don't see the benefit of the simvastatin.

You must take into account that you will continue to have complaints for several months. It was no small operation. There is also the possibility that you will get an intestinal infection due to overgrowth of bacteria (Clostridium Difficile). In that case treatment with Rifaximina is the best choice in my experience.

Also watch out for urinary tract infections. They are often overlooked.

In general, however, it's all okay. The described complications usually do not occur.

Exercise regularly, even if it hurts a little.

If you have any questions, let me know.

Sincerely,

Martin Vasbinder
