Dear Martin,

I am 74 years old. Medication: Atenolol 100 mgr and Coversyl 5 mgr. A year and a half ago, without noticing anything, fell with a scooter, which resulted in a bruised (or broken) hip. Maybe you remember.

I now have a completely different problem and will try to describe it: Since 2 weeks I have a lot of pain in my right leg (hip was also on the right). That pain goes through the whole leg from the top to the ankle. The lower leg feels slightly numb over the tibia and sometimes the knee also feels a bit stiff. Sometimes it feels like I'm going to “crash my leg” and I'm afraid of falling.

Initially that I have muscle pain, but rubbing it with counterpain doesn't help. Lying on the right side is also painful (something with the injured hip at the time?

No idea what it is but today I got a heavier painkiller because I can't take it with paracetamol. Do you know?

Thanks in advance.

Groet

Dear S,

Your symptoms probably point to a nerve problem. Perhaps a herniated disc at level S1,L5,L4. (Tailbone, Lumbar Spine). That could be a late consequence of the fall, but that doesn't solve the problem.

Often a physiotherapist can do something.

If not, try to make an appointment with a neurosurgeon, who will no doubt request a scan.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maarten
