Dear Martin,

Very painful experience this morning. Accidentally stepped on a mini scorpion. About 3 cm. Light gray in colour. I probably don't need to tell you that this is very painful under the sole of the foot. Immediately took 2 antihistamines and fifteen minutes later only 2 paracetamol against the pain.

Is there anything else you should or shouldn't do?

Regards,

N.

Dear N,

That hurts indeed. Had one in my shoe once. Since then, always turn my footwear around before I put it on. In general, an aspirin works better against the pain in this case. Ice helps with the swelling.

The wound can infect, so be careful. What helps is to immerse the foot in warm water with soda or salt for 5-10 minutes. Then dry and betadine on it. The soda is "baking soda". So no caustic soda, in which your foot dissolves.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Maarten

The little brown scorpion is very painful indeed. The pain is equivalent to the pain of a centipede bite.

If you go to a hospital you will be given morphine or local anesthesia without further ado.

The sting of the big black scorpion is hardly painful (compared to a mild bee sting)

    Arjen.
