Dear Martin,
Just read an article about the general practitioner Maarten which answers many questions / complaints. I'm also struggling with an ear problem at the moment, but I'm not sure if the solution Maarten proposes applies to me.
I suspect I also have an infection, but there is no pus or anything. If I press on the back of my ear, it is painful and my ear partially closes and the ability to hear is lost for at least 50%. I probably contracted this during a 1600 km Ho Chi Min trip on the scooter. It was quite humid there and half of the trip not too warm. I suspect there is a connection.
Can that be and what to do? I'm going back to the Netherlands in just over a week and luckily I don't have major pains, but I would like to rule out restless thoughts.
Sincerely,
H.

Dear h,
You probably have a lot of cerumen (earwax) in your ear. The pain is probably caused by mild otitis externa (inflammation of the ear canal).
To know for sure, it is useful if a doctor takes a look in your ear.
Flying doesn't seem to be an issue as far as I can judge.
Yours faithfully,
Dr. Maarten
