Dear Martin,

I am 72 years old and have always had a sometimes excessive potency. I'm on quite a few medications. This medication I suspect that my potency is now at a very low level.

My question is do you see an explanation between taking my medication and my inability to get a good erection or even an orgasm?

My medication use is indicated at the bottom of the email, I visit my specialist once every 4 months. I don't smoke and drink one glass of red wine a day. I weigh around 80 kg and am 1.70 cm. I regularly measure my blood pressure at home and give values of 129, 75, 59 in the morning at complete rest.

I hope for a quick response.

My medication per day:

  • Amaryl 2 mg 1/2 hour before breakfast
  • Metaformin in 850 1 after breakfast
  • Tritace 2,5 mg 2x after breakfast
  • Aspilets 81 mg after breakfast
  • Bisloc 2,5 mg 1/2 after breakfast
  • Turosemide 40mg 1/4 tablet
  • After dinner, Metoprolol 100mg
  • At bedtime Zimex/Simvastatin 10 mg
  • Maforan 3mg used to be Wafarin sodium

Regards,

H.

Dear h,

There are three causes that can explain your impotence:

  1. Your diabetes.
  2. Your age.
  3. Your impressive drug list, which can even make a rabbit impotent.

We can't do much about the first two. However, your medication list may be subject to change. You take two beta blockers - Bisloc and metoprolol. You can reduce one, not stop suddenly.

  • You can stop the Zimex. Has no use.
  • the Tritace you might be able to stop too.
  • You can also stop the Maforan or the Aspilets if you have been taking them for more than six months.

I suggest you find another hobby as long as we can't cure diabetes and make you younger.

Talk to your doctor about the options. If they don't want it, I may be able to help you, but for that I need a lot more information, such as history and blood results.

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Maarten
