Dear Martin,

This question concerns my Thai wife who is now 59 years old and has been suffering from cervical spondylosis for at least 10 years (diagnosis made in Belgium and confirmed in Thammast Hospital). She has no other medical problems.

Here the neurologist prescribes her medication that I don't like, for example Ultracet or Tramadol and omeprazole is also prescribed because this can be very difficult for the stomach.

After watching the videos on YouTube under the title “Weed” (previously aired on CNN) where neurologist Dr Sanjay Gupta revisits his past prejudices against medical cannabis oil as a pain reliever I would like to take my wife to a government hospital where they use cannabis oil . However, because of their long waiting lists, this hospital asks for a referral from the neurologist in Thammasat Hospital, who refuses because he believes that there is not enough scientific basis to recommend cannabis oil. Yes, that could be because Big Pharma apparently has no interest in medical cannabis.

I would like to read your opinion on this.

Regards,

F.

Dear F,

Unfortunately, my opinion will not convince the neurologist. Fortunately, there are more neurologists in Thailand.
To be honest, cannabis oil is an excellent alternative to opiates. It has fewer side effects and is much less addictive.
Currently, you are allowed to grow six marijuana plants in Thailand: https://www.businesslive.co.za/bd/world/asia/2021-03-05-thai-households-now-allowed-to-grow-six-cannabis-plants-a-year/

Here is a group of clinics where cannabis can be dispensed: https://cannabisforthailand.com/marijuana-cannabis-clinics-in-thailand/

Yours faithfully,

Dr. Maarten
