Dear Martin,
I have been struggling with a nosebleed for quite some time (5 months), although the blood does not run from my nose, but is visible when I blow my nose. Now after I have already undergone some PCR tests, it comes out in a nasty way because there is blood on the stick.
I am 62 years old, sporty and in good health, and do not drink or smoke. Can you tell me what could be the cause of this? And how could I possibly fix this?

Dear R,
There is a “vascular tangle” in the nose and a vein has probably burst or been broken by the test. So don't test at all. First of all, I would buy Otrivin (xylometazoline) and spray it two to three times a day. Then it usually passes.
If that doesn't work, you can go to the ENT doctor, who can cauterize it (burn it closed).
Testing can also be done in the mouth. That's no worse than through the nose. Just as unreliable.
