Dear Martin,

My name is A, am 60 years old, 173 and 70 kg. I have been taking doxazosin for several years for prostate enlargement, not cancer. My problem is that now I have low blood pressure, always below 70/100 and I often feel dizzy and have headaches. And also nausea and heart palpitations. This comes up at the craziest times of the day and some days it's just OK and other days it's really bad.

Before I went for a checkup for my prostate, I never had this problem.

My question is, is there an alternative to this drug here in Thailand that is not blood pressure lowering and still allows me to urinate easily?

Thanks in advance for taking the trouble to rid me of this problem.

Regards,

A.

Best A,

Doxazosin is given to improve urination and according to studies it does indeed have some effect. It also lowers blood pressure, something that you suffer from. Tamsulosin of the same family (alpha 1-Adrenoceptor blockers) has that effect to a lesser extent

After a week without Doxazosin you can switch to Tamsulosin 0,4 mg. 1 tablet per day. If your symptoms persist, visit a doctor, possibly a cardiologist.

If your prostate complaints get worse, consider a TURP, preferably using a green LASER (GreenLight laser).

After that you don't have to take pills for your prostate at all.

Sincerely,

Dr. Maarten
