Dear Martin,

Sand fleas: is it recommended to have a cortisone injection against allergic reactions from their bites? In other words, I have bumps all over the body and also red spots of 5 to 10 cm in diameter that feel warm.

I don't have to tell the connoisseurs that everything itches terribly.

Regards,

G.

Dear G,

Have you tried an antihistamine like Clemastin? Hydrocortisone cream also works well.

Sand fleas (tunga penetrans) lay eggs in the skin. Is that the case, or is it not sand fleas, but sand flies, that can transmit Leimanisasis. Allopurinol then helps.

It can also be cat or dog flea bites. they often give large red spots.

A picture of a sand flea bite is attached.

A cortisone injection has many side effects if it has to be done regularly.

If you can't figure it out, visit a dermatologist

Sincerely,

Dr. Maarten
