Watching TV is very bad for your health

It is becoming increasingly clear that with every hour we spend inactive in front of the TV, we increase our risk of cancer, heart attacks and death. Even if we did intensive sports earlier in the day. Epidemiologists at the US National Cancer Institute came to this conclusion in a study in which they followed just under a quarter of a million Americans aged 50-71 for an average of 8,5 years.

Previous studies had already shown that periods of inactivity – other than sleeping – are unhealthy. Not because exercise is healthy and you don't move when you're inactive, but because things happen in your body during periods of inactivity that increase your chances of illness and death.

When you watch TV you are unnaturally passive. When you sit at the table and talk, you move. When you sleep you move. But when you watch TV, you display a behavior that Homo sapiens really only exhibits when we are hit by a paralyzing toxin that inhabitants of the tropical rainforest extract from the secretions of a stinking red-colored frog. Or if we died.

The researchers found that every hour of moderate-vigorous physical activity reduced the risk of mortality. That's old news. But they also discovered that within the group of people who exercise a lot, every hour spent daily in front of the TV increases their risk of mortality. And that was fairly new.

Americans who watched more than 7 hours (!) of TV a day were 60 percent more likely to die than Americans who watched less than 1 hour of TV a day. The risk of death from a heart attack or stroke was 85 percent higher among heavy TV consumers, and the risk of death from cancer was 22 percent higher.

Conclusion
“Strong public health messages that encourage reductions in sedentary time are an important additional lever that has yet to be forcefully pulled in the effort to increase overall physical activity levels in the population and to reduce disease risk,” the researchers write. “Adults should be encouraged to reduce time spent in sedentary behaviors, when possible, in favor of more active pursuits and to participate in moderate-vigorous physical activity at recommended levels.”

    These are hefty numbers!!!
It just could be so true.
Fortunately, I watch at most half an hour of TV a day,
but I can imagine that people are addicted to it.

    Warning man………

    ps
Does excessively annoying telephone (mis) use also fit into this picture ???

The Homo sapiens, he did not smoke, did not watch TV, was not overweight or unhealthy food.
Unfortunately, Homo sapiens only lived to be 30 years old on average.
The hunting technique was somewhat comparable to watching TV. Hours of silence for hours in front of a dark hole
sitting with a bat until your meal comes out.

All those investigations cost a lot of money that could have been better spent on something else. Anyone with a bit of common sense understands that spending entire days glued to a TV with the necessary snacks and sugary/alcoholic drinks is not exactly beneficial for your physical and mental condition. Being born implies that you will also die one day and when and why you have some control over yourself, but for me that does not mean that I, to name just one thing, have a glass of wine, a drink, a pastry, a nice piece of red meat or something. avoid anything fun on TV. Moreover, some people enjoy TV programs very intensely, especially sports broadcasts, so they still do some exercise.

    Healthy watching TV!

Place the bike on a moving wheel in the living room - connect the dynamo with converter to 220V to the TV - pedal relaxed with a power of 100 - 200 watts - and enjoy the programs you want to watch. The longer you look, the better it is for your health!

You will be served at your beck and call.. Would be something... you're screwed if you have a plasma TV because then you can keep pedaling when it's on.
