Dear readers,

My announcement to stop has already provoked quite a few reactions. It's true that I really meant what I said there. It was something I had been playing with for a long time and it was really just the drop in the known bucket. It fills up on me too. Too often I read comments that have the sole purpose of posting something negative. Also in this case.

What also bothers me is that people expect information or are looking for information, because why else read TB, but on the other hand do not think it is necessary to contribute by also sharing information. Commenting on something or someone, or saying what one should or should not do, say or write is simply much easier than making a positive contribution yourself.

Anyway, I'm someone who doesn't often close a door for good, with a few exceptions. I followed the advice of some readers and editors and let it sink in overnight. Just as some readers wrote in their reaction, I should not let my decision depend on one or more negative reactions. If I were to do that, I would still have to take into account the positive reactions and then I would have to continue. For your information. Actually, I had asked to close the comments. This at the risk that the negativists would otherwise see another reason that I was fishing for compliments and interest. But that decision is ultimately in the hands of the editors.

I am someone who reacts emotionally and especially from the heart (sometimes too often) to certain situations. That was also the case here. After sleeping on it for a night, I decided to let the positive reactions outweigh the negative ones and continue with it. Those that I can help with my advice, or to clarify things by writing it in a different way, are also entitled to that.

To the negativists I have the following to say. If information does not apply to you, do not read it or at least keep your comments to yourself. This does not mean that you must therefore always agree with what is written and that you are not allowed to let it be known. It's okay to disagree with someone in terms of content, but then come up with constructive comments.

The TB Immigration Info Letters have been created, among other things, to give readers the opportunity to share their experiences with other readers. These can then be local experiences that you can only experience in that specific immigration office. I can quite understand that someone 600 km away has nothing to do with it, but that should not be a reason not to post it or not to let them know.

I therefore hope that you will continue to submit your experiences. Also for myself. Your experiences are also a source for me when advising other people.

I'm drawing a line under this now and not going back to it. For me, the matter is settled and will pick up where I left off, as I see there is another question in the pipeline that is awaiting an answer.

Regards

RonnyLatYa

A good decision Ronny, a lot of people use your expertise, don't let a few negatives ruin it.

    • Georges says up

Wonderful decision… it is to your credit Ronny.

  2. Joseph says up

Good, Ronny. Compliments! Indeed, don't be discouraged by a single negativity. Too many others benefit from your relevant explanation, which makes this blog a great added value.
To the editors of this blog: if anyone has a question for Ronny, let him answer and keep the comment option closed. If reader experiences are requested, moderate more tightly, and exclude opinions. If discussion is needed, distill the topic from the comments and post it as a separate entry.

Good decision Ronny. 🙂 More people have been helped than less pleasant reactions, and helping each other we do it, don't we?

  4. Nice Ronnie! They sometimes say that no one is indispensable, but that is not true.
    Keep up the good work!

  5. Kees says up

That is very good news. Although I have little to do with visa matters, I think you are doing a great job. Negativity is a very nasty side effect of the accessibility of the internet. After all, there are many negative people who always think that what others put forward is worthless without factual knowledge. Or just criticize for the sake of criticizing. They seem to feel good about that. I hope that a good solution can be found in this case, because your information is of great value to this blog.

    Hello Ronnie.

Thank you for your decision, I'm happy with it anyway, and I think many are with me.
They may not all let you know, after all, not everyone is a writer.
I'm already looking forward to the next post in the pipeline.

    Yours sincerely.

Nice post Ronnie! Unfortunately I recognize this. This was also a reason for me to cancel my private and business facebook accounts, even though it was a loss for the family.
I hope that you can still get a lot of satisfaction from the TB and that you can mean something to many more people!

very nice that you continue Ronny because I always read your responses to sometimes questions that I sometimes think that no one can know when, for example, Thailand will allow tourists again or when you can apply for an extension again and just continue.'
You always answer and I really appreciate that.
Many of us benefit from it and just what you say is of no use to you then skip the story and do NOT comment.
    Overall, glad you're continuing
    a loyal follower
a tip towards the moderator (no comment though) because a lot is being written: maybe be a bit more choosy with posting certain reactions if possible? also to protect people who post something

Great, I hope you were able to make a statement for all readers. And this also applies in life. Stay positive. To the negatives : group yourself in another blog and attack each other there to your heart's content. Then we won't bother you.

The fact that you finally decided to continue giving advice on e- and immigration issues makes me happy.

Thought for a moment, I'll make a banner and walk through Amsterdam with it, wouldn't be a good contribution, a banner with: 'Ronny must stay' on it, because I live close to the wallets.
I mean it though, I always read your comments and often think, what love this man puts into it, tribute !!!

Very good Ronny, don't be fooled by negatives.
I'm also on a site for old-timer enthusiasts and there are also those simple people who like to piss off someone's car or story.

    Dear Ronnie,
Your experience and expertise have helped me on several occasions, for which I appreciate and thank you.
On an open forum you will of course also meet individuals who want to profile themselves (negatively) at the expense of well-intentioned advice. The fact that this affects you is human, but it is to your credit that you persevere and that you therefore continue to keep the serious readership correctly informed.

  35. Harry says up

    Thank you Ronny!
I always read your articles, often don't need them (yet), but I can see that you put a lot of time, effort and love into getting them on paper (proverbially) at all. Often I have referred people to TB just because of your articles. It is indeed a pity that there are always people who think they know things better or simply do not understand those whole pieces but then comment on them. Fortunately, you can see through that now. From the reactions here, to your statement, you can see that you are widely respected and appreciated.

    Sincerely,
    Harry

    Hello Ronnie.

    I'm glad you're back.

  37. Peter says up

    Awesome.

Please give a tip for TB.

There are readers who have to express their opinions very and very and very often. Isn't it wise not to give these people (I won't name names) this opportunity anymore. Know we have little to do in Thailand and all think they know better. But because these people respond to almost every issue, they also regularly provide very wrong essential information. These people unnecessarily get fellow readers into trouble with their incorrect information. They just have to find another way to spend their time.
Anyone who thinks they should comment on one or more articles in almost every episode of TB should start a TB themselves. And kudos to Ronny for your effort. Super.

  38. French says up

Good for me, good for many.

Your contributions and info was and will be the main reason to read this blog.
I can well imagine if you get asked the same question AGAIN, or in a slightly different form, you refer to your earlier answer.

Good reading can and should be learned.

We can't miss you here with all your good advice...!!!
Glad to hear you're getting back on track.
I can imagine very well how you have felt with those negative comments from people .... what a good night's rest can have a good effect (luckily ..!!!)
But as you say yourself it is better to focus on all the positive..!!!
Don't let the negative influence your life too much.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK RONNY..!!!!

What a relief, Ronny! Especially in this uncertain "Corona period", where many who are currently staying outside Thailand, including yours truly, are anxiously awaiting better news regarding the further opening of the borders. That will be accompanied by certain conditions, which in turn will be material for questions towards Thailandblog resp. you.
In any case, this review of yours makes my day!

    Hello Ronnie

Thank you for the many hours you invest in helping people who don't have the opportunity to gather the information they need on their own.
Many do not have a Thai girlfriend or are elderly and speak little or no English.

The fact that each immigration office has its own rules and that some employees in each immigration office also have their own rules that are correct or incorrect causes a lot of confusion.

It is therefore very useful that all information of difficulties with local offices and their idiosyncrasies are made known.

I also appreciate the information from Ronny who has always been right so far and can be a beacon for some in doing so.

Because there is too much talk about who says this and who says that.

    Thanks Ronnie

I am very fond of your advice and opinions. One of the first pieces that I look for in thailandblog every day are your topics and information, which I value very much… even though I live about 10.000 km from Thailand.
It would be a great loss for thailandblog if you stopped. Over the years you have given so much good advice to the readers where I now feel it necessary to let you know and thank you for that.
I understand your considerations to stop, but I think it's incredibly nice that, all things considered, you still want to continue it.

    Hi Ronnie,

You will make a lot of people happy with this decision.
In all the years of reading TB, the thought often came to mind that there is a lot of vinegar pie…. and please let us know.

Your contribution to Thaiblog is very great and sometimes reading the questions you had treated a week before, my toes also curled, but never lost your patience.

You will make a lot of people happy with your decision to continue.
Ronny, good luck and please keep this in mind,

“ONE ALWAYS GETS RUN OVER BY A BUNCH”
A very old saying but oh so true in the 21st century.

  68. georgio says up

    Hi Ronnie,

A wise decision you have made to continue with information regarding immigration matters and the like, many bloggers will see this positively.
Giving negative comments and putting someone to shame is done quickly.
Actually, this blog still serves to help people in certain situations and one immigration office opposite another also has different opinions regarding the documents, let alone that every officer also has his own opinion about it, because you personally experienced that you sign up and have been with the same person as the year before and who asks you for other documents
That is why it is useful that people share their experiences here on the blog, and that you, because you are the specialist, can also share advice for this
Ronny good luck and thank you for your effort on this blog
    Georgio

    Hi Ronnie

What can I say, everything has already been said.
I am very happy that you have decided to continue, and that you can still give good advice to many people.

    THANK YOU Ronnie

  73. Chris says up

I think the comments say enough about the appreciation you deserve. Negative people are more likely to comment than people with positive experiences. The same applies to questionnaires, etc

  74. Peter says up

Great class! Positive beats negative! Especially now your knowledge and experience are of great importance.

  75. Glenno says up

    Dear Mr Ronny,

I did not respond (before) yesterday because I suspected that it was the well-known “drop”. Someone who is sooo motivated and driven to share his knowledge with others will not be turned away by an incident or by a negative reaction.

I am glad that your night's rest has brought you to other insights. See above how many grateful responses to your review.

It must be said that it seems to be a tendency of people who apparently have a miserable life, make a sport of pissing others off, or drink a lot of vinegar. Too bad, because constructively sorting out / sharing something together brings a lot of joy.
Anyway, treating everyone with respect turns out to be quite a task for some.

If I may say something positive:
I have been following this newsletter daily for more than a year and have the impression that I regularly see the same or similar questions. Would it be an idea to create a database with answers to frequently asked questions? For example about visas and the associated requirements, about buying/selling real estate, marriage/cohabitation, wills, etc. etc. .
It can save a lot of work for the future, including for you. And less irritation. The database then only needs to be maintained.
The most important (frequently asked) questions will come up automatically.

Dear Mr. Ronny, Thank you for being back.
    Fri. gr. Glenno

  76. Joe Beerkens says up

Thank you Ronnie for deciding to continue. We always read your expert information with great attention and we learn a lot from it. As far as we are concerned, the editors can leave it at Ronnie's answer and do not post any further comments.

We also think that many people are reluctant to contribute to TB, because of the often negative, unnecessarily hurtful and, above all, incompetent reactions.

As far as I'm concerned, it's extremely simple. If there is a serious visa question that might concern me, I take note of Ronny's answer and leave the rest for what it's worth.
    Congratulations Ronny.

  79. Fact tester says up

Brave decision Ronny! You have conquered yourself. You should be very proud of yourself for getting this done. What characterizes a strong man? Not that he falls, but that he gets up again! Well done. And we TB readers reap the benefits of that. Many thanks and good luck!

  80. HansSteen says up

Nice Ronny, respect for all the time you put into this.
You have personally helped hundreds of questioners by now, and have probably served thousands of people indirectly with your advice. Indispensable!

  81. Peter says up

The many positive reactions say enough Ronny. I usually don't respond if I have nothing to add to previous responses. But on this occasion I will make an exception. I'm super glad you're continuing Ronny. Welcome back.

Great, great that you are continuing.

  83. Josh NT says up

    Was that a bit scary!
Glad you reconsidered your decision. Together with me, many readers of Thailandblog will appreciate this. You are one of the figureheads of the blog and without your correct information and advice, many readers would be lost in the visa and residence problems of Thailand.
Thanks for continuing Ronny and don't let a few vinegar pisses discourage you.

    Ronnie!
Knowing you as a friend from Mechelen, I thought when reading the nonsensical criticism from Bz on July 17,
    "THIS WILL NOT WORK".
And indeed a few hours later at your first response it didn't work out.
But because I know you very well as a friend, I also knew!, (because you have such a big and good heart), that this was an ill-considered reaction and that you will never for long do this beautiful work, which you already have done for so many people. done for only 1 Moot who is among this TB immigration info letter, and I am very glad that you have come to your senses quickly because people need you very much here.
Hoping that you may and will continue for many more years, I greet you, and Faay with the greatest of respect.

Pfffffttttttt, that scared me!! I open my email and vaguely read something about “reactions from Ronny….. and a bit further about “announcement to stop”……. I almost had a heart attack on the spot….. I couldn't press the link fast enough……. turning turning turning…… just now the PC is slowing down again….. the blood almost dropped below my diaphragm….. breathing became difficult… ahaaaa, opened…. and at lightning pace I start reading…….. “Dear Readers”… (ever so correct, formal, polite) ……. . My anxiety turned to anger, my blood rose again and started to boil….. what “miscreant” dares to kick one of the few figureheads that TB has in the shins, who dares to say that something is not is correct….. I don't hear….. I need Ronny….. ooohh sorry….. desperately needed, maybe from, or tomorrow, or next year…. but the day will come when I “again” can no longer see the trees in the forest, and I can appeal to the forester who watches over the jungle high in his tower…. who knows every tree, every path that leads to it…. and am I glad that one (I say it again), one (1) day later I get to read the only correct answer, on TB, but also in my mailbox. 1000 x thanks Ronny for giving humanity (here limited to some Belgians (allée, the Flemings) and some lost Dutchmen) a chance again. We tackle them with both . Thx, mvg André

    Hi Ronnie,

I'm so glad you've changed your mind. You help a lot of people with your comments. Although your information is often not directly important to me, I still read it every time and keep up to date with things.
Be aware that it must take you a lot of time every day to answer all the questions as well as possible.

    Dear RonnyLatYa,

I have a lot of respect for you for continuing.
Sometimes it's also good to know that your work is really respected, which you usually do
    not hear.

The thumbs is something that doesn't interest me much if people benefit from it or have been helped with it
    (even if it's only 1) I'm happy.

    Make sure you keep going!

    Dear Ronnie,
I have been living in Thailand for 15 years now. I no longer look up to a new year extension or a 90 day notification. But I still like to read your information. I don't skip any. So I'm glad you're continuing.
Leave the ant fucker and vinegar pissers to the left. And know that there are many who feel this way.

  112. Ferdinand says up

    Dear Ronnie,

First of all, respect for your decision to continue your services on this medium.
When I read your decision to stop yesterday, I was a bit scared, because you have been a sure point of contact for advice on visa matters for many. Who is best informed about all the rules that come with this?
You have also helped me on my way once and I am grateful for that.
Now future Thailand visitors can ask their question with confidence and expect correct advice.
I hope to be able to follow your advice for a long time to come, because as always things change in the regulations.

    I wish you the best,

    greeting
    Ferdinand

I have always found your information to be more than very correct. Your information has never been taken out of thin air, but always substantiated. There are not many people to be found who can inform our community in such a correct and instructive way. Your information helped me very well at one point, for which I was very grateful then and still am.
Perhaps we should now take into account that many people are currently walking on the tips of their shoes and are getting a bit desperate because of all that virus stuff.
Congratulations Ronny… you are our best.

Hello Ronny, I always read your blog with great pleasure, but selectively, I don't really feel the need to respond to things substantively, but I would regret not being able to receive a Thai Blog, Keep it up, this is a positive reaction Ronny, Greetings Joh Vloet

    Dear Ronnie,

Good decision dude. You leave your big hobby, because I think it should
be, yet not diminished by a few ignorant people.
I have great admiration for the patience you put on, sometimes several
times in a week the same questions, a calm and correct answer
keeps giving. Class man, keep it up because it is being read by many blog readers
    much appreciated.

  116. Mike says up

    Dear Ronnie,

Very well spoken by you. Indeed, your concern is to help people and not to be contested by know-it-alls.
Many thanks for your clear explanation and help.

    Regards Mike.

    Hi Ronnie,

I have been a reader for years who reads your articles with great interest, I have never left a comment (I have too little knowledge or experience about the issues), but I would like to let you know that your articles are greatly appreciated, and be an intellectual enrichment of the blog. Unfortunately, there are also some cheap negatives active on this blog; my advice: don't go into it- not your level-.
Your contributions are extremely helpful to many people who would otherwise have a hard time finding this useful information.

    With regards

    Marc

Dear Ronny, what a concisely written word! Thanks for the past advices and I look forward to the next one!

  119. Mike says up

Glad you decided to continue with it, for many the matter around visas is rather unclear and your help and explanation are more than welcome. Thanks Ronny.

For the many with confusion about visas: keep calm, don't get angry, go through all the websites and download the forms. I myself only have experience with 1 type and that is the retirement extension. This one is really quite simple and if you take the trouble to read for 2 hours, you know everything that can be said about this. A little self-reliance saves you a lot of stress and a far too hefty agency fee.

Good luck Ronny, the internet is full of negative things, unfortunately the positive people are mostly silent.

I would like to agree with all the positive reactions, thanks Ronnie!

    TOP!! Ronny

Oh…sometimes someone has a different opinion…from the heart don't even mean to say the wrong thing.

Very nice of you to continue. Most people are very happy with your professional responses. !!

  122. Reginald says up

Well responded Ronny. Good luck with your help to third parties.

  123. RonnyLatYa says up

    Thanks to everyone.
The many positive reactions prove that I made the right decision. She also felt right.

As I said, you don't have to agree with everything or with everyone and you are welcome to let us know if you think otherwise, but let us cooperate or think along constructively in the future. Everyone benefits from that.

    Let's stick with this.
    Thanks again for the support.

  124. Jacques says up

That Ronny has quoted something, but a special quality in the form of resilience has triumphed with him. This is good news for many people who benefit from receiving adequate and high-quality information in the field of visa issuance and related matters. Needless to say that this item is a headache for many in Thailand, because it is a theater piece that is unparalleled. Constantly changing and subject to the political arbitrariness of policymakers and politicians. Admittedly, I am also a man of rules and it is a necessary evil, but it could be a little less and friendlier with all those rules and sometimes absurd demands. The bureaucratic arbitrariness should also not be possible, a policy for the entire country is not that difficult after all. Recognizing this, it is a necessity that the correct information is proclaimed, especially on this blog. I'm glad that Ronny has found it in herself not to be discouraged and opinions of others will always be there and always will be. Let that go because the appreciation of many others, including those who do struggle with it, is what you do it for. So Ronny on behalf of many and myself, great that you reviewed this decision and just keep going.

  125. Francois Nang Lae says up

Good news. If there's one subject where facts matter and opinions don't matter, it's the visa regime. Glad the expert wants to stay.

  126. Bert says up

A little late, but I'm also glad that a piece of knowledge is preserved for TB.
Just ignore negative reactions and take courage from the positive ones.

  127. support says up

Suggestion to Editors TB: you moderate all postings, don't you? So also those on Ronny's contributions. Is it then possible not to post the negative reactions to his contributions?

After all, he is a source of information for many. There are no negative reactions to that. If one does not agree with the immigration rules or reports about it from Bangkok, one should turn to the Thai Government.

    • We will certainly pay more attention to it and cut off discussions sooner.

  128. Adrie says up

This whole thing shows once again how much mischief negative reactions (can) cause, reactions that often stem from frustrations or simply having nothing to do and therefore trying to piss others off.
I wonder if the moderator couldn't be more active in banning that kind of firewood in TB. I am really often struck by the many needlessly negative comments from all kinds of people. I wouldn't have any problem with it being limited and I wouldn't see that as 'censorship' at all. It would only help to have a TB that is just useful for many and fun to read without all the utter nonsense and hurtful comments from the countless 'losers' who also manifest themselves here.

    • At least 10 -25 comments per day, do not get through the moderation. That is a considerable percentage of the average 100 responses. Only positive and rose-colored reactions make TB boring. Discussions should be allowed, but within the set rules.
However, we are going to cut off discussions faster because it often gets bogged down in wells/nots.

      • Rob V says up

Maybe the moderator can type a short diary? From the outside it is easy to shout 'Thailand blog is a dictatorship, you are not allowed to say anything' or 'they just let all kinds of scum and vinegar through'. Walking the center line is not easy and cannot be done flawlessly. A look behind the scenes, which considerations come up on the moderator's plate, perhaps gives understanding and appreciation for the work behind the scenes.

        • Yes, a good idea in itself, but it takes a lot of time and also causes all kinds of discussions. It's like a referee in football, there's always discussion even the VAR doesn't help. There has only been more discussion, now especially about the VAR.

          • Joseph says up

We should not pretend that the whole Thailand blog is riddled with reactions from whiners. Much is separated from the chaff by the content of counter-reactions themselves. But in cases where more “technical” information/know-how is required, eg regarding Thai Immigration issues, regarding Schengen issues and regarding Tax matters, this blog can already call on experts in the field. Therefore, let RonnyLatYai, Rob V and Erik and Lammert de Haan formulate their answers to questions that arise and keep the response option closed.

            • Thanks for your suggestion, but this has already been discussed with Ronny. The response option is disabled for visa questions and not for visa information letters. It stays that way.

              • Peter Youngmans says up

It seems to me relevant for TB as an info forum that experts can pass on their messages and knowledge, with only reactions that are also substantive in nature. Too often I read all kinds of comments ad hominem, while it is only about passing on or interpreting laws and regulations. “Don't shoot the piano player”. It would therefore be to the credit of the moderator to intervene here and lead it to the point that only meaningful or additional information - may it be in grammatically correct Dutch - is shared. Ronny's case is a good example of this. Very appreciative that a mode has been found that allows him to stay connected to the beautiful TB!

  129. Peter says up

Nice Ronnie! I admire your often patient explanation in which people present their “unique” situation around the same theme. Your accurate knowledge and love for beautiful Thailand (sometimes less beautiful) is excellent and I am glad that this is preserved.
Editors: do not censor the comments, positive or negative, these are also facts that you have to deal with and fact checker Ronny is a relief from which I also learn something!

You have already helped many people and I hope you will too in the future.
A deep bow and much respect,
    thanks again and good luck,

  135. Jurgen says up

There is already more than enough negativity. I LOVE this blog and am learning every day. And if one is and remains negative: block. But the majority who enjoy this on a daily basis should not be victims of a few with limited minds. If you don't want to read something, unfollow it. Simple right. I will keep following because, as said, I am grateful to learn from the experiences of others.

  136. Lucky Luke says up

    Dear Ronnie,
your contributions show great expertise and are always to the point. They are of great added value for Thailand Blog. I'm glad you don't get flustered by the eternal critics who take pleasure in criticizing for the sake of criticism. They are often individuals with the same pathology. They drink vinegar in the morning, eat sour plums in the afternoon and go to bed constipated. Medicines don't help. Their condition is hopeless and they take it out on everything and everyone they encounter. Not infrequently they have narcissistic traits and enjoy the demanded attention they receive. These terminally ill patients are simply part of society. Unfortunately we cannot remove them. Just ignore.
I agree with the previous reader. A deep bow and much respect and thanks for your contributions.

  137. Willy Becu says up

    Bye Ronnie

I wanted to post here a while ago that I thought it was immensely nice of you that you always searched and found an answer to the many immigration questions with knowledge of the facts! I personally experienced that twice. I also found many articles from members very interesting!
To conclude, Ronny: don't go away, leave those negativists for what they are. I ask them: instead of tearing down, help build or find another place to spit your bile. A little respect for people here like Ronny would do you good. A big mersie to you, Ronny!!!!! I really hope you stay to give us some good advice and I think I speak for 99,99% of the members here!!!!!

  138. nicky says up

Ronny, we also join the list.
We have also consulted you a few times, in this complicated mill of Immigration.
We're glad you're continuing with this.
    Thank you

  139. paul says up

Great Ronny this decision. Don't be guided by negative news. Adhere to the Trump philosophy. This man almost only receives negative reactions, however, he continues on his own vision.
    Good luck > good decision
