When a couple goes on vacation together, it's the woman who wears the pants. She decides on the holiday destination, hotels and all matters related to it, but in the end the man is allowed to pay. This is the conclusion of a study by online travel organization Vliegtickets.nl.

The majority of the people who participated in the survey go on holiday alone with their partner (57,3%). What is striking is that in all matters where money is not involved, the woman makes the decisions. The woman is therefore dominant in the entire process of booking the trip. The suitcase is packed individually (53,1%), but only 4,2% indicate that the man does this all by himself (42,7% woman).

Women often spend hours orienting themselves on the Internet and choose the holiday destination (53,1% women against 17,7% men), arrange the hotels, car rental and excursions (45,8% women against 15,6% men), search and book the airline tickets (64,6%) and arrange all necessities you need before/during a holiday, such as a passport, visa and all vaccinations (54,2%).

Once the tickets selected by the woman can be paid for, the man only comes into play. No less than 60,4% of the male respondents ultimately pay for the airline tickets. At the holiday destination, the man also pays twice as often as the woman (36,5%), but they pay together even more often (46,9%).

    Good Morning,

It's different with us. Although I arrange the planning of the trip, my partner does
and I each pay half of all costs of travel and accommodation.
He arranges the flights and car rental; I make the itinerary. Good distribution right?
    Regards, Ing

We have not been asked anything.
We arrange our holidays together, for 56 years now.

Is it really the man who pays or does it come from the common pot? It may well be that the money comes from the common pot, the man has a credit card, but the woman does not. In that case, payment is made in the name and account of the man (although sometimes it is his wife who has entered all credit card details and clicked the 'send' button).

Here at home we arrange the holidays together and we both have our own credit cards. Because mine is rarely used, I immediately get the bank on the phone with every payment asking whether it is the intention. To drive you crazy. So I use my husband's credit card. Problem solved!

If you have to pay the annual costs of the credit card, does the bank also ask you whether this is the intention? If not, immediately change credit card company or bank.

My wife and I have been traveling together for 38 years. I do all the preparations, reading, bookings and plans. The backpacks or suitcases are also packed by each of us independently, but there is discussion about this every year. My wife always tries to get me to bring more clothes for the five weeks and I check her suitcase list to make sure that she doesn't take five pairs of shoes, for example. We always leave with at least 40kg but last summer we came back with almost 80kg (my wife loves shopping in Bangkok and almost everything is for our daughters) I always pay everything and what my wife sees as her job during the holidays is that the clothes look good and clean. If she shops and I read by the pool, she pays of course. I am satisfied with that, because that interests me very little. In short, a satisfied couple.

Then my wife and I must have done something wrong, because we decided on holiday destinations together. Sometimes it was me, sometimes my wife who came up with an idea. Or the other person would come up with it again later: “You wanted to go to…, right?”. Payment went out of the common pot. We also packed suitcases together: first pack your things yourself and the other person probably had a correction for that (you forget X, you don't need Y). Of course, my darling only arranged most of it for Thailand because she could then search around there in her own language, call or email, etc.

    We have not been asked

We decide TOGETHER where the journey goes and EACH pays his own share :).
Or how you turn it or turn it, ultimately it comes from the same "wallet".
    We also pack suitcases TOGETHER.

Funny to notice that people who read the Thailand blog apparently deviate from the standard :).
