The parking fees at Dutch airports have not increased in the past two and a half years, in contrast to the prices at Belgian and German airports. The average price for parking for 3 days at an airport in the Netherlands is now even lower than in the autumn of 2012.

Due to this decrease and the price increases in neighboring countries Belgium and Germany, the Netherlands is now the cheapest for a weekend parking. This is evident from it Spring report 2015 'Parking at the airport' from the website Vliegveldinfo.nl.

Travelers pay an average of 35,70 euros for a weekend parking at an airport in the Netherlands. This is 12% cheaper than two and a half years ago. In Belgium, 3 days of airport parking became 6% more expensive. Prices in Germany rose by no less than 18%. Is the Netherlands now the cheapest? Yes and no. Well for a weekend, but for a week German airports remain the cheapest.

Dutch airports experience competition

Airports in the Netherlands keep a close eye on the market. The airports did not implement a price increase compared to autumn 2012 (AMS, MST, RTM) or lowered the rates after an earlier increase (EIN, GRQ). Airports are more than ever facing competition from parking companies, public transport and taxi providers. Consumers nowadays compare almost all travel products. Also the transport to and from airports, which includes parking.

“Airports know this and are responding to it,” says Guus Wantia, founder of Vliegveldinfo.nl. “In recent years, Dutch airports have introduced new parking products, in which the online reservation of a parking space is central. The cheapest parking spaces, such as Smart Parking at Schiphol or Budget Parking at Eindhoven, can even only be booked online. There is one more condition: travelers must be there early, because the number of places is limited”.

Belgium is and will remain expensive

As in the autumn of 2012, parking costs are highest in Belgium. All airports, with the exception of Ostend Bruges Airport, are relatively expensive. BRU and CRL in particular charge high prices. Only Zaventem (Discount Parking) and Charerloi (P3 Low Cost) offer the possibility to park cheaper after an online reservation. Compared to two and a half years ago, prices in Belgium have risen slightly. The largest increase is for Liège Airport, where a week's parking has become a third more expensive.

Parking in Germany is getting more expensive

In Germany the picture is very different than in the Netherlands. With the exception of Düsseldorf Airport and Münster Osnabrück Airport, parking costs in Germany have risen sharply. For example, parking for 3 days at Bremen Airport is now 27% more expensive than two and a half years ago. At Cologne Bonn Airport the increase is 38%. The price for a week's parking at Cologne Bonn Airport has even been increased by 51% (from 39 euros to 59 euros). Nevertheless, parking at the airport for a week is still the cheapest in Germany.
