What do you do at Schiphol if you have to wait for the departure of your flight to Bangkok or elsewhere? Do you want to browse the duty-free shops? Want to gamble at the Casino? Want to drink coffee or something else at the bar? Do something different and look around for special things at this beautiful airport. For me still the best and most efficient in the world!

Go to Departure Hall 3 and admire a new special work of art in 3D by the Dutch artist and innovator Daan Roosegaarde. He has called it “Beyond” and shows clouds and Dutch light. “With your head in the clouds and your feet on the ground”, that is what Schiphol stands for for millions of travellers.

Departure Hall 3

Due to a change in this departure hall, a blank wall of more than 100 meters was created and Daan Roosegaarde was asked to do something with that space. Together with a team of experts, he has created a work of art using a unique printing technology and lenses that give the viewer the feeling of seeing perspective and movement in a space of clouds and light.

Wonder

Daan Roosegarde was inspired for this artwork by the beautiful paintings of the Dutch 17de century painter Salomon Ruijsdael. Amidst the hustle and bustle of Schiphol, “Beyond” provides a place of wonder. Looking at the clouds and the 3D effects, which are further enhanced by LED lights in the wall, you look miles into space as if you are looking through a window in an airplane. It has something poetic to dream away in.
