THAI Airways has placed a significant order with Boeing for 45 of its 787 Dreamliner aircraft, with an option to purchase an additional 35 aircraft, according to reports from Reuters. The choice for Boeing was already announced in December, and now the agreement has been made official.

Information obtained from Boeing shows that there is an order in their system for 45 units of 787 Dreamliners from a customer who was not named but identified by Reuters as Thai Airways. Details of this agreement are expected to be officially released later this month.

It is interesting to note that Thai Airways already uses the Boeing 787 Dreamliner, with six 787-8 models and two 787-9 models in their current fleet. For the new order, Thai Airways has chosen engines from GE Aerospace, in addition to the Rolls-Royce engines installed in their current Dreamliners. The choice for GE was partly motivated by the high costs of the maintenance contract with Rolls-Royce, as reported by Reuters.

When expanding their longhaul fleet, Thai Airways also considered the Airbus A350, a direct competitor to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner. However, the exclusivity of Rolls-Royce engines for the A350 would have been a decisive factor for Thai Airways to expand their fleet with more Dreamliners.

This article reminds me of the negative people on our blog who told us in previous years that Thai Airways would almost certainly go under.

The expansion of their fleet makes me hope that they will resume the direct Brussels-Bangkok route in the near future. At the moment I think this is a loss, switching is a waste of time for me.

I sincerely hope that they are finally back on track, despite all the negative comments from the past.

There is talk of a possible restart of BRU-BKK in the autumn of 2024
      Let's hope that's true

What kind of strange comment is that...
People who realistically tell the situation of Thai Airways are called negative people.
      Just a few more facts.
People who have been hoping for a refund for tickets for canceled flights for four years.
When you arrive at the airport you will see 20-30 parked aircraft that cannot be used due to lack of funds.
Flight attendants who have been working at Thai Airways for longer have to work office jobs, while those who have worked there for a shorter period have been fired.
      And even more misery...

It was even said that there was no more money to buy kerosene.
