Karon viewpoint

When you think of Phuket, you may automatically think of beach and sea, but the island has much more to offer. How about the natural beauty of Sirinat National Park?

Of course the bounty beaches are an attraction, but you should also discover the adventure and the heritage. We give you some tips.

  • Crystal clear water, spectacular reefs and colorful marine life make Phuket a diving paradise for novice and experienced divers.
  • The island has no fewer than six golf courses. Enjoy the temperature, the unique landscape with lush greens and challenging courses.
  • Spa and massage is part of Thai culture. Pampering has become an art form in Phuket, whether it's a relaxing treatment at one of the island's many luxury spa resorts or a quick foot massage on the beach.
  • Between April and September you can surf the waves around the island.
  • Visit the giant reclining Buddha, Wat Srisoonthorn, a great place for a unique selfie.
  • Don't feel like busy beaches? Head west to Nai Thon or Nai Yang, two beautiful and quiet beaches undiscovered by tourists.
  • Paddle a kayak around the beautiful islands of Phang Nga. It's the perfect way to admire the breathtaking limestone cliffs and emerald green waters.
  • Visit the Karon viewpoint. There you can see three beautiful beaches (Karon, Kata Yai and Kata Noi). Also book a magical sunset cruise.
  • Head to Laem Hin for delicious seafood dishes, popular with the locals. Also visit the Chinese Quarter in Old Phuket Town.
  • Visit the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project: While many tourists head to the popular Khao Sok National Park, the Gibbon Rehabilitation Project is a lesser-known gem where you can learn about the efforts to protect and rehabilitate gibbons.
  • Hike to the Black Rock Viewpoint. Many people know the Laem Promthep Viewpoint, but Black Rock Viewpoint is much less crowded and offers breathtaking views of the ocean and surrounding islands.
  • Phuket Old Town on a weekday. Most tourists visit the Old City during the weekend, but on a weekday you can explore the colonial architecture, colorful houses and local markets in a quieter atmosphere.
  • Head to the east of the island and kayak through the tranquil mangrove forests. It's a peaceful and unique way to see the natural beauty of Phuket.
  • Visit the Temple of the Submerged Buddha (Wat Ao Yon). This lesser-known temple has a Buddha statue that is only visible at low tide. It's a unique spiritual experience that many travelers overlook.
  • Visit the Phuket Mining Museum. Learn about the island's tin mining history, something that many visitors often skip.
  • Day trip to Koh Yao Yai or Koh Yao Noi. These lesser-known islands between Phuket and Krabi offer beautiful natural beauty without the hustle and bustle of the more famous destinations.

Last tip: rent a car. Phuket is connected to the mainland by the Saphan Sarasin Bridge, which offers tremendous opportunities to explore national parks and pristine beaches from there.
