Island hopping at Koh Tarutao

The adventurous part of island hopping is that you sail from one beautiful experience to the next. In this way you discover different cultural aspects, without leaving the country. For example, visit the island of Koh Tarutao. Far from mass tourism, this island is a well-kept secret. This gem is part of the Tarutao National Marine Park, which consists of more than 51 islands in the south of the Andaman Sea.

Expedition Robinson

The name Tarutao means 'old and primitive' in Thai. Although the latter is not necessarily the case, you will still find a piece of authentic Thailand here. You may know the island from an earlier broadcast of the television program 'Expeditie Robinson'.

Most of this paradise is covered with dense jungle. Along the west coast are a number of sheltered beaches with white sand. Many travelers come here for the flora and fauna such as the sea turtles, crocodiles and lizards. Unfortunately, the water is not suitable for a snorkeling trip, but the great hiking opportunities with breathtaking views make up for it. There is a limited number of huts on the island that are closely supervised by the local government. The island is therefore still untouched. On Koh Tarutao you can only stay overnight between November and April. You get there by boat from Pakbara in southern Thailand.

Snorkeling on Koh Lipe

If you would like to snorkel, go to nearby Koh Lipe, with its snow-white beach and clear sea, the place to be. You can relax here during the day, after which you can dive into the nightlife in the evening. The wildlife on the islands can also be admired with their giant turtles, crocodiles and lizards.
