Koh Adang, hidden beauty in the south of Thailand (video)
Koh Adang is the second largest Island within Tarutao National Marine Park and is close to Koh Lipe not far from neighboring Malaysia. The island is 6 km long and 5 km wide. The highest point of the island is 690 meters.
Koh adang is surrounded by only a few sandy beaches, but the coral reef in particular is incredibly beautiful. The hilly interior of the island is covered with dense jungle. There are two waterfalls on Koh Adang, and there are also a number of mountain trails through the jungle.
The views are beautiful, including towards the nearby island of Koh Lipe. The island is pristine and undeveloped, thanks to being part of the Tarutao National Park. At the southernmost tip (closest to Koh Lipe) there are camping facilities and a few bungalows where you can spend the night. You can rent a longtail boat to sail around the island. For example, in the north of the island there is a beach with black sand.
The waters around the national park are clean and clear. Many types of fish are found, including certain shark species, rays, dogfish, catfish, salmon and sea bass. Marine mammals such as the dugong, dolphins and minke whales are also regularly seen. The Tarutao National Marine Park is also the preferred nesting ground for sea turtles that nest on the beaches from October to January to lay their eggs.
