On Tuesday, the cabinet approved a one-year medical visa. It gets the name of Non-immigrant MT (Medical Treatment).

It is an agreement in principle, which means that the details still need to be worked out.

The visa is aimed at foreigners who need continuous medical treatment and they can therefore be accompanied by three companions.

The Non-immigrant MT visa is available as Single and Multiple entry. One obtains a residence period of 90 days per entry. An extension is possible if the medical treatment requires it. For this, medical certificates from the hospital or medical institution must be submitted.

Eligible include anti-aging medicine, health rehabilitation, plastic surgery, dentistry and treatment of cancer and cardiovascular disease.

Patients and their companions must each present bank statements with deposits of at least 800.000 Baht and have accident and Covid-19 insurance coverage in Thailand for at least US$100.000, or approximately 3 million Baht. It must be demonstrated that agreements have already been made with the hospital 30 days before arrival.
