Reporter: Eric
E-visa application in Belgium is a real mess. Since November 22, I have made every effort to apply for e-visa in Belgium for Non-Immigrant O visa for departure on January 8 with Thai Airways. I was completely let down by the Thai embassy, so the visa was never finalized by them and I missed the ultimatum for the Thailand Pass.
I now have to cancel my flights as we just can't go to Thailand, a real shame how they completely let down people with Thai wives when they are still trying to get to Thailand.
Note: “Reactions are very welcome on the subject, but limit yourself here to the subject of this “TB Immigration Infobrief. If you have other questions, if you would like to see a topic covered, or if you have information for the readers, you can always send it to the editors. Use only for this www.thailandblog.nl/contact/. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation”.
Perhaps if you mention what went wrong and how they let you down, you can expect understanding and/or a response. Now you make a statement that no one can handle. What went wrong in your eyes, where did “they” not help you? Sending only an angry letter to Thailandblog to express your displeasure is of no use to anyone.
I am also interested in some more information. I want to apply for a visa in April and hope that Eric's bad experience will not repeat itself.
So Eric, here's my question, what exactly went wrong?
Similar experience. I got my visa after much insistence four hours before the departure of my flight. Fortunately, I live fifteen minutes from Zaventem and ended up in Thailand (where not many tourists walk around anymore). There is a Thai lady at the embassy in Brussels who looks at everything with a magnifying glass.
Dear Louis,
don't throw a stone at that 'Thai lady at the Thai embassy in Brussels who looks at everything with a magnifying glass'. She has to do what her boss tells her to do.
I know that lady well personally. Her nickname is PEN and she has been working at the embassy for many years. Married to a Hungarian and she speaks fluent French. When I was still living in Belgium, she and her husband visited me at home several times. It's not SHE who is difficult, She is MANDATORY to check everything thoroughly on BIG BOSS'S ORDER and that's a man.
Lodewijk, you can't blame the employees at the embassy for doing their job, can you?
That Thai lady doesn't look at everything with a magnifying glass, be sure of that. The rules they MUST follow are laid down and they are not allowed to deviate from them. Easy.
The biggest complainers are those who are not in order with their papers. I have never had any problems with my applications, neither in Belgium nor in Thailand. Sometimes people ask for a form that I had not counted on, but that is part of it.
That Thai lady will certainly not take the risk of losing her job and follows the rules imposed on her.
I would also like to know this, can I miss an answer to something, how did I do it, because I received the visa a day before he left
Sonja Vlaar
I can only report here how my (tourist) visa application went: (so no O-visa)
– after completing the application on 22/11, I received an email from the “system” on 23/11 ([email protected]) where I was asked to submit 3 “additional documents to the embassy.
See text mail below:
Dear Applicant,
Please send the additional documents as followed : 1. E ticket (pdf) 2.last bank statement of Nov. with the balance at least 700 euros 3. the hotel reservation after quarantine at least half of stay. Thank you.
*Please note this is an auto generated email. Please do NOT reply to this email.
– after I had transferred these documents on 23/11 to the embassy in Brussels via email to [email protected] (so no reply to 1st message!),
I got the “aproval” on 26/11 (within three days as promised on their website)
Comments:
– I had not heard / heard anything about demanding a bank statement with at least 700 € (fortunately this was not a problem) before or during the application
– I made the hotel booking (which I never have in advance) via 'booking' with the option of free cancellation (done after approval)
So, as far as I'm concerned, this has been going pretty smoothly.
The problems start (I think) when one does not have the required documents and one has to start negotiating ... as the requesting party you depend on the goodwill of the embassy (employee)
PS: applying for an E-visa and a ThailandPass (now suspended for now) were two separate things. I was never asked about my E-visa when applying for the Thailandpass (and which one I didn't have at that time either)
@Erik (melder): hopefully you will still get there (as a tourist and extend on site ???)
Greetings to the other readers,
'” – I had not heard / heard anything about demanding a bank statement with at least 700 € (fortunately this was not a problem) before or during the application”
Looks like it's on the website anyway....
“Financial evidence eg bank statement or sponsorship letter
Last 3-month bank statement with a minimum balance of 700 Euros (Single Entry Tourist Visa)….”
This also applies to your stay.
“Proof of accommodation in Thailand
a confirmed hotel reservation (confirmation for at least half of your stay !) …””
https://www.thaiembassy.be/2021/09/21/tourist-visa/?lang=en
Correct, but during the application was (is?) not specifically asked for these documents (to upload them)
PS: I'm also not complaining about how it turned out for me...
(although I found ThailandPass to work more smoothly … )
I'm not claiming you're complaining either.
I just want to clarify that you should not just follow what is asked of the e-visa on that website.
That is why, and this is not only directed at you, it is important to first read the website of the embassy.
There you can read the following text, among other things
“Please upload all required documents of your visa according to the lists below, despite insufficient document sections provided on http://www.thaievisa.go.th. The Embassy is in the process of requesting additional sections from the Thai e-visa web developer, which may take some time. In the meantime, you may upload the rest of the required documents where deemed appropriate or in the same section as other documents. It is important to upload all required documents in order for your application to be processed in a timely manner.
1. Tourist Visa
2. Transit Visa
3. Non-Immigrant Visas
4.MICE”
https://www.thaiembassy.be/visa/?lang=en
I also patiently await the answer of the topic starter to the question WHAT went wrong.
Strangely enough, there is no answer to this question. Just coming here to say that the new visa procedure is a real mess without a word of explanation is of no added value to us.
If Eric's complaint is justified, then it is important for many of us to know the details. Then we can at least arm ourselves if we have to submit an application ourselves.
A little more explanation about my lash out at bad treatment by the Thai embassy in Belgium when applying for an e-visa. On November 23, I immediately took action to try out the e-visa method upon announcement. At first I was blocked for many days because the system still didn't work, but after dozens of tries I finally got into the system for applying for Non-Immigrant O visa and was able to complete everything by December 2 with confirmation of 12 documents completed and payment of 80 euros for visa as requested. After that, I was placed on hold for approval at the Visa Dept. for many weeks. and despite insisting many times via emails, I was never able to get my application fully completed as they were too busy with more urgent applications. When time was running out due to flights on January 8th with Thai Airways, I raised the alarm again and strongly urged to be helped, but the calf had already drowned, because in the meantime the Thailand Pass had been withdrawn for people who did not yet have a full application done and so even if my visa application was suddenly approved, I could no longer leave according to the planned arrangement of 8 January. Due to the decrease in the crowds, they suddenly announced on January 5 that my visa has not yet been lost and that I can still obtain a visa by forwarding an official invitation from my wife in Thai. Now they say everything is fine, but they still haven't issued a visa and I can't do anything with it for now, because we just can't leave. Now I have asked Thai Airways to keep track of our flights for a later booking when the situation becomes clearer, but the Thai Embassy and the Visa Dept. actually never helped me to leave, while we had everything in order to leave legally as Belgian husband and Thai wife. A really disappointing story that has still not been given an acceptable solution. Regards, Eric
Dear people, I have already sent a detailed clarification of my top cistart, but I do not see it in the comments yet, hopefully it will come.
I finally received my confirmation for Non Immigrant O visa today 1 DAY before we were supposed to leave normally, but since Thailand Pass can no longer be applied for, this is of course hopelessly too late to leave and due to the current uncertain situation it is it may also no longer be possible to use this visa at a later date.
I certainly do not want to make wild accusations, that is not my style, I just want to point out that an application that I already officially submitted and paid for on December 2nd was put on hold for so long that it was no longer possible to get the visa can still be used in time, despite many e-mails to the embassy to get assistance before January 8. I hope other people will have more success with their applications. Best wishes to all readers, Eric
Dear Eric,
There must be a valid reason why your application was put on hold for so long, they don't just do this 'just like that'.
It is a bit unfortunate that people automatically label the functioning of the embassy as a mess. Many people will still have to use the new E-visa application system and such statements make us a bit worried.
There are many others before you who have had no problems at all, thankfully. I hope that the clarification you forwarded earlier will come online, we can only learn from that.
Have a nice day.
