Reporter: Geert

I was at Immigration Chiang Mai for info year extension and if I understood correctly the Affidavit is still accepted there. I also received a list with the requirements for obtaining a year extension based on “Retirement” (see appendix).

Then contacted the Belgian embassy for the Affidavit (see attachment). There I received the message that given the corona crisis, they want to limit non-essential contacts and it could happen completely post. Even if you are not registered at the embassy.

Next send by EMS

  •  Affidavit, fully and clearly completed and signed
  • Copy passport
  • 720 Baht for the Affidavit
  • A self-addressed envelope for return Affidavit
  • 40 Baht cost for return by EMS

Attached

  • Chiang Mai year extension requirements
  • Affidavit Belgian Embassy

Geert, coincidentally I sent the same information to post on this blog. I was told at the information desk that 'Lettre from Embassy' would not suffice, and that they also want to see a copy of monthly deposits of at least 65.000 baths... I am going to apply for my extension on 15/8 with only the affidavit and I am curious whether immigration will handle this accepted. According to the information letter, it is sufficient. I will keep Thailandblog informed of my application on 15/8

      Hi Luke,

Two years ago I obtained a year extension in Chiang Mai with only an affidavit.
Last year I got a year extension in Samut Prakan and an affidavit was not enough there.
Back in Chiang Mai this year now, looking forward to it. According to the document that was given to me last week, an affidavit would suffice. But you never know of course.
I look forward to your experience as my year extension is not until October.

      Goodbye,

In the light of the Thai regulations, I can imagine something about that refusal, because the Belgian affidavit in fact consists of no more than a statement from the interested party about his or her income. The Embassy declares this on the Dutch statement, based on a check of the supporting documents submitted by the applicant.
