Classical music in Thailand

Thai nightlife has many types of music. However, not everyone likes Thai music, country, hip-hop, and whatever modern forms of music are called. The lover of Western classical music does not have to miss his preference during his visit to or stay in Thailand. Unfortunately, the problem is that it is not always easy to keep abreast of activities in this area.

I did a little research on the internet and found several websites that announced a musical classical program, but almost all of them were in the past.

Bangkok

Of course, a lot of classical music is performed in the capital, but the announcements either come late or not at all in the public press media. The only reliable website I found was that of the Bangkok Philharmonic Orchestra, bangkoksymphony.org. There you will find the program for the whole year, so that you can take it into account when visiting Bangkok. They are all large performances, the smaller gatherings, such as chamber orchestras or piano recitals are hard to find, if at all.

Pattaya

A lot of classical music is also performed in Pattaya. On the upside, a number of Pattaya residents, who felt that announcements of classical concerts or recitals were lacking, have started an entirely new website: pattayaclassicalmusic.com

An excellent initiative, which is also supported by the local government. On this site you will find all concerts and smaller musical performances that take place in and around Pattaya.

Eelswamp

The music performances in Pattaya take place in several locations, but I would like to mention the Eelswamp estate as a special place. A retired Australian lawyer lives here with his family and organizes smaller recitals of piano or classical singing in his yard. He has his own website, where the regular concerts are announced: eelswamp.blogspot.com  If you visit a concert with him, you can also buy goat cheese, if available, because Gregory Barton also has a goat farm on his estate.

Elders

I am sure that there are also performances of classical music in other cities of Thailand, regularly or not. Unfortunately I couldn't find it, so additions from the blog readers are greatly appreciated.

In Thailand, classical music as we know it is experienced completely differently.
I myself went to a concert last December at the Thai cultural center in Bangkok.
The conductor tried to be fun in his own way by telling all kinds of jokes and then the quip to the music, all in Thai. Still a strange sensation to hear the overture of the Flying Dutchman, but quite fun.
People don't sit still during the concert, tweeting, Facebooking and going to the toilet are no problem.
If you look through that, I think it would be nice to experience something like that, but if you don't know this in advance, you'll be surprised. I will definitely go again next time.

A site in English with just about all the cultural offerings of 'greater Bangkok' is from the Jack Gittings, which you can subscribe to for free. https://sites.google.com/site/bkkmacaldetails/

Pattaya's Jomtien is of course home to Ben Hansen's unsurpassed little theater, where beautiful classical music evenings are also organized. ([email protected])

Good initiative, Gringo! For Chiang Mai I found three two sites:

    http://www.chiangmaicitylife.com/event-categories/concerts-and-shows/
BV a Mozart piano recital on May 28

    https://www.facebook.com/MusicLoversChiangMai/

This is the music academy in Chiang Mai

Very old news indeed. Little current information
