Obscurity, the Thai trademark

Deserted beaches at Pattaya

It is not easy to follow the official regulations of the. What is still maintained and what has now been abolished? May 4 would be the last day that the public would be checked for fever and the destination at the checkpoints on the Sukhumvit Road. And indeed on May 5 everything was as usual, although less crowded.

However, wearing the face masks remains mandatory as well as keeping a distance from each other. The cleaning gel for hands is also still present in a number of places.

Will everything open again now? No, in Thailand the curfew will remain in effect until at least the end of this month. Despite this, several thousand Thais and foreigners have been arrested for violating the prohibited hours of 22.00pm – 04.00am.

A survey indicates that there are multiple reasons why people take the risk of fines, imprisonment and even deportation. The first is ignorance. While national, local and social media are constantly announcing regulations, not everyone pays equal attention to the announcements. Several foreign tourists who were arrested for gathering at a hotel pool in Pattaya gave the excuse that they did not know it was illegal because it was on private property. They then argued that the hotel manager had given them wrong information.

An expatriate in Chiang Mai was detained after he was caught driving his car in the middle of the night with a cage in the back seat. He explained that his cat was very sick and he was trying to find a veterinary clinic that was open at XNUMXam. According to him, the internet said that medical emergencies were exempt from the curfew.

Other ambiguities are whether or not gyms will open. Sometimes it can be read that this would be the case. During a short tour of Pattaya, it turned out that this was not the case. Alcohol sales have been possible again since a few days. However, it seems that this would only be possible for a few days. This also differs per province, as does traveling between the provinces.

As for the beaches around Pattaya, they will remain closed until further notice. Sad for all beach chair managers because the lease for the piece of beach will continue while there is no longer any income. It was already bad due to the low number of tourists. You can guess how many will return after the end of the lockdown!

In short, inform well about the possibilities at the moment to prevent problems.

We now have 20 years of experience with Thailand. Indeed, we always said in the beginning: why?
I have quite a bit of experience in the M. East and N. Africa and there too the world is different from the Dutch upbringing. We'll just hang in there and comment. How about accepting it because you don't believe that we as Dutch will educate the Thais?
Next time you don't understand it, think: Never say WHY.

Beach chair places are normally rented per year, rumor is that rental prices are reasonable around 100000 bath.
    Sometimes it is even offered.

The why in Thailand is clear : Every Somchai with a little power wants to put his own stamp to make a name for himself. Look at the perfect of Buriram and the mayor of Pattaya
“Thanks to cutting pattaya in half for 2 weeks, everything is solved, wow I'm good, look at me!”

It is childish behavior, but what can you expect from a country with ministers such as Anutin…

Obscurity is not just a Thai trademark. I'm ashamed to be Belgian at the moment, I don't understand at all why they still have such panic fear.
The Netherlands is doing very well in this area. After all, the virus will always be there.
