Soon I will fly to Thailand, this time with Etihad Airways.

"Can it be an ounce more?"

Why Etihad? Just because they had a super offer. I think it's a sport for one cheap plane ticket to Thailand and we succeeded. Only paid € 399 for a return. I have never flown so cheap from Amsterdam to Bangkok.

It is a so-called Open-jaw ticket and there is a transfer in Abu Dhabi. The transfer time is two hours, so doable. I fly back to Dusseldorf. Only a 90 minute drive from Apeldoorn and a friend picks me up there by car. So no dirt in the air.

Another advantage is that I can take 30 kg of luggage with me at Ethiad. A true feast! I don't have to put my suitcase on the scale with fear and trembling. I had bought an extra large suitcase especially for this occasion. One where I can put my double-door fridge in without a whistle. When packing I heard an echo continuously.

I wanted to be prepared for the worst because my girlfriend had already made a list of things that I could bring from the Netherlands for her. Then some presents are added and she has her own corner in my suitcase. Just say: a corner. For Gringo I also bring two boxes of cigars. In short, the suitcase was already starting to fill up a bit. I myself was now also a bit more enthusiastic about packing, a T-shirt more, an extra pair of shorts, a pair of shoes and that's how it progressed nicely. Packing the suitcase with that 30 kg in mind was such a pleasure.

However, the moment of truth had arrived. The suitcase was full and I then put it on the scale. The result: 19 kg! uh, what? Something isn't right here. Picked up another scale. Again the suitcase on 19,1 kg... I looked around nervously to see if there was a hidden camera somewhere of the local Bananensplit boys and girls. No, that was not the case.

Dark Thai spirits must be at work here, I thought to myself. When I have a luggage limit of 20 kg, I always have to make choices because I always end up at around 23 kg. Now I can drag half my household goods with me and I'm still under 20 kg. Incomprehensible, an Eastern mystery I guess…

Well, of course it's not very important. I am curious how I will like the flight with Ethiad. After six hours of stretching my legs in Abu Dhabi, I don't see it as a disadvantage. Then another six hours for the second flight and then at Suvarnabhumi airport, where my love is waiting for me.

I will write a report about my flight with Etihad. Now I'm going to weigh my suitcase again to make sure that the Thai ghosts don't play tricks on me.

Dear Khun Peter, when I meet your love I will advise her to expand her wish list next time. After all, it's a pity, especially for her, that you're now letting 10 kilos of extra presents go by.

With such a suitcase you can also pack your girlfriend and take it with you.

Etihad gave birth very well. on the return journey we had a 20 hour transfer and went into the city. As far as we're concerned, there's nothing wrong with that. Good and friendly service on board and plenty of seats,

A tip for a long stop in Abu Dhabi. You can take a free bus to Dubai. I experience Dubai better than Abu Dhabi. More to see and do. The bus takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes. You can book a seat through the Etihad website. I did it in February when my flight arrived in Abu Dhabi at 12am local time and I didn't have my flight to Dusseldorf until 2am. Well entertained.

With a long layover in the night hours I always take a Hotel. For around 50 to 60 euros you can find something not far from the airport, for example Ibis.

I myself will try Emmirates once, yes also the weight and price; together with a 10-year-old daughter, a transfer should take 2 hours.

From Bangkok with the A380 I also found it instructive with a stopover of 2 hours, and well 2x 30 Kg + hand luggage 2×7 is back many Dutch delicacies 🙂

From BKK-AMS return ticket in August together 46.000 baht top price!

    Have fun and happy landings

    Allen,

I have been flying with Etihad and Emirates for years. Many reasons such as:

    1. Good price,
    2. Good quality and service.
    3. Lots of luggage freedom.
4 I personally hate very long flights, so I personally think 2 x 6 hours is great.

I am flying again with Etihad at the end of this month. For 450 euros return and can also take my golf set for free.

    Dear Kuhn Peter,
Are you going to Hua Hin again this year??
Then I would like to ask you to bring me 2 small bottles of Echinaforce (50 ml.) from Dr. Vogel.
Can be purchased at any DA for ± 7.50 euros.
The costs will of course be reimbursed and my gratitude is very great.
    My phone no. : 0806000724
    Sincerely,
    Hans

      Dear Hans,
No, I will only be in Thailand for a short time and will only go to Bangkok and Pattaya. I'm going a little longer later this year. So I can't help you. better luck next time.
You can also post a call on Thailandblog, then someone else will take it for you.

      Just send a PM.
(And I include my 'real' email address.)

I will probably go to Thailand this year and also to Hua Hin.
      (Nothing is certain though. Haha.)
But if I go, I'd like to bring you something.
Even if this will be later in the year.
      Just let us know.

      Regards.,

If you still have an old heavy suitcase from the last century, it is indeed a good tip to look out for a new lightweight one from 2014.

Also fly with ethiad on Sunday. I also went 7 months ago and also then I flew with ethiad, legroom was spacious and the food was good, very satisfied. I had a stopover of 2 hours and a return trip of 3 hours was doable, but flying at that distance is always tiring. now pay 375 euros pp at the flying shop and have therefore decided to take a short holiday after all.
