The climate study of the US space agency Nasa is canceled. Bangkok Post and The Nation report this today (Friday, June 29). Dutch media would have called NASA for comment on Tuesday. The Thai newspapers didn't; moreover, their posts today are based on Nasa's website and not even on their own newsgathering.
On Tuesday, under pressure from protests, the cabinet decided to submit Nasa's request to use naval air base U-tapao for a climate study in August and September to parliament for consideration.
Because parliament is in recess, this cannot be done before August. NASA had Thailand given until Tuesday to make a decision, otherwise it would run out of time in terms of preparations
As a former journalist, the reporting in the Bangkok Post regularly disturbs me. The newspaper pretends to be a quality newspaper, as evidenced by the motto: The newspaper you can trust. I would like to add the word sometimes. Not only does Bangkok Post sometimes make calculation errors, but the newspaper also regularly contains contradictory ones information in successive posts on the same subject.
Failure to make a simple phone call to NASA's information department on Tuesday would lead to a reprimand from the editors-in-chief in the Netherlands.
"...moreover, their posts today are based on Nasa's website and not even their own news gathering"
It is and remains sad, especially for those few scientists who do want to make something of their country.
Totally agree with the additions.
Totally agree with Dick and Mr. MCVeen. A missed opportunity arising from a mindset that prevails among most Thai politicians: If there is nothing to steal, it is not interesting. Sad…
@ Dick,
Yes, it is annoying if you cannot trust a newspaper “so the info”.
But I think it's doubly annoying for you because you have to do your best every day to get your newspaper.
Although the newspaper has a nice layout and smells wonderfully of ink. And yes, you can do other things with it in an emergency.
