Wintering in the Netherlands

For the first time in almost 20 years I have been sentenced by circumstances to spend the winter period in the Netherlands this time. At first it seemed like something insurmountable, but in the meantime I have resigned myself to the situation.

Comfort me with the thought that in April my travel ambitions can be fulfilled again. Maybe back to Thailand but after Songkran, an event that I experienced once but definitely not a second time. To each his or her own, but that watersmite thing is not exactly my favorite party.

Delicious winters

Believe it or not I am enjoying the winter weather, the beautiful autumn colors and the occasional shining winter sun. How beautiful autumn is. Fortunately, the temperature for the time of year is still very bearable for this chilly. The beautiful skies and autumn leaves in the forest, enchantingly illuminated by the autumn sun, are a feast for the eyes. With my photo camera I go out to capture the autumn colors.

Repress

Try to convince myself that our beautiful country also has many charms and is not inferior to Thailand. Soon it will be Christmas again and Thailand cannot evoke that intimate atmosphere in me. This year, not enjoying the warmth for three months, but simply turning the heating up a few degrees at home. Candles on, a nice glass of wine at hand and a little dreamy thinking about Thailand that I will probably miss this winter period.

Music

No doubt in January, when the cold penetrates to my bones, I will miss the Thai warmth. The music and atmosphere in some of my favorite fun establishments in Bangkok also pass me by this time.

Music can offer comfort but will not be able to compensate for the lack of tropical sunbeams.

Must confess that I go through life somewhat frustrated because I can't play any musical instrument. A frustration I overcame many years ago with the purchase of a player piano. An almost self-playing instrument on which you can perform 'live' all the great pianists from a distant past by using your hands, not to mention feet. Music brings joy and lessens sadness.

You already feel it; more than usual I will be playing my 102-year-old Blüthner grand piano with built-in pianola mechanism during this winter period. I have already conjured up the special Christmas rolls. Famous pianists of yesteryear such as Edvard Grieg, Ferrucio Busoni, Julius Röntgen, Franz Léhar and Johann Strausz will have to guide me through this winter period and hopefully make me forget or at least somewhat forget the lack of three months of Thai sun and wonderful temperature. light up.

Wish all bloggers and readers of Thailandblog a Merry Christmas and a healthy and happy 2014.

Due to circumstances I am also in NL instead of Thailand. Delicious for once.

The air pollution here (Pattaya) is so great that my calibrated device for particulate matter measurement indicates code red. It is 1 large construction site and now also in Naklua days and nights through thunderous traffic of trucks, s (construction), buses and other cars.

I'm probably not coming back here at all. Sitting on a "clean" island without entertainment doesn't seem like anything to me either,...

    So happy holidays,

    Frank

Hi Frank, It's been a big mess for a few years now with all that new construction, and construction going on 24 hours day and night. No more seeing me in Pattaya.

And wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Healthy 2014 (2557)

Well Joseph, one comforting thought: Thailand is currently experiencing the coldest winter or summer in the North - whatever it may be called here - since I came there. And that is from 1997. At night temperatures of 10 degrees and during the day the sun takes a very long time to warm up a bit. The wind keeps it cold. The houses in the Netherlands are built much better for this than here. It sleeps well under a double duvet close together. We bought some winter clothes for the day.

With the repertoire of the nice list of pianists, of which I have to say that I (unfortunately) don't know two, you should certainly manage to get through those months. I also wish you beautiful musical days!

Waited too long to book because of the demonstrations in Bangkok and couldn't find an acceptable flight, so now we fly first on 02/01. So we are also in NL for the first time in a very long time for Christmas. Previously to winter sports, then in the sun on Phuket Was in the supermarket this afternoon to buy the last "crumbs" before Christmas and suddenly remembered why I definitely do NOT want to be in NL around this time. Almost started to hyperventilate from all those stressed faces.

Nevertheless, a Merry Christmas and a healthy 2014 to everyone. Ron.

A consolation I'm sitting here in CM shivering from the cold for the moment. As mentioned above, there is a cold wave here in the North. I hope those who come later bring warmer weather.
