Frans Amsterdam has settled down again in Pattaya and entertains us, until there are no more 'like' ratings, with his experiences in a follow-up story.

Someone recently suggested in the comments that I wouldn't get enough exercise, because I didn't seem to get much further than the immediate vicinity of the hotel and favorite pub. That is absolutely correct.

Within a radius of 200 meters you can find just about everything a person needs. Various breakfast options to choose from, followed by extensive coffee in the Wonderful 2 Bar. There, the situation in the world in general and in Pattaya in particular is discussed with a few regular visitors. I also usually write my stories here in the afternoon, when it is much too hot to do anything else.

And why would I leave here? My ashtray is emptied three times an hour, I am refreshed from time to time with an ice water wipe, my pack is regularly checked to see if there are still enough cigarettes in it, paracetamol is taken out when I have a hangover, my nails trimmed and filed, someone comes by to polish my shoes, when new girls arrive who are introduced to me, when I threaten to forget the closing time of the laundry again, the man comes to take my laundry to the bar... Even the I have outsourced the exchange of Euros into Bahts, my confidence is rock solid and has never been betrayed. No, this is not just a bit of ordinary bar hanging, this is fully catered lounging in optima forma! On a bar stool, that is.

At the end of the afternoon a few beers to whet your appetite and stretch your legs. I don't get much further than Soi 13/1 or 13/2. 'You can eat on every corner of the street' is an understatement. If I have something in mind for dinner that requires bridging some distance, there is always a motorbike taxi that dares to take me on the back.

Relax in your room for two or three hours, with or without a relaxing massage. For the latter I don't have to leave the house either, a message to one of the acquaintances via Messenger or Thaifriendly and a little later there is a soft knock at the door.

Then it's time to start preparing for the hunt. That is, if there is no hitch in the cable, in the form of heavy rain or if a suitable candidate has already reported via the tablet. Usually it will be a motorcycle taxi to one of the areas where beer bars are concentrated, such as Drinking Street, Soi 3, Soi 6, Soi 7 and 8, Soi Made In Thailand, Soi Buakhao, Soi Honey, Soi LK Metro, Soi Diana, Soi 13/2 and /3, or the bar complexes along Second Road, Beach Road and Walking Street. Sometimes I have a 'goal', for example someone I have contact with on Thaifriendly, but have not yet seen in real life. If someone like that works in a bar, I usually go for a drink with them first, and then we'll see. Or I just go randomly. It doesn't matter all that much. Here too, however, you should definitely not imagine a grueling evening four days, it is bar hopping at best.

As soon as I've made my move, I have two motorbike taxis approach and it goes back to Wonderful 2 Bar. If I still need things for the night, those groceries are gladly done by the unsurpassed staff there. In the meantime, the band plays some of my favorite songs, I gratefully take advantage of the 'pay two, get three' offer, and there is usually still a food stall that attracts attention. Sprinkle a few lady drinks is of course appreciated, that is well worth the investment, you imagine yourself in at least the business class of an airplane, where you know all flight attendants personally and often even better. They also know your wishes like the back of their hand and seem to take a real pleasure in making you as comfortable as possible.

Sometimes things go wrong, like last week. A girl I had barfined in Soi LK Metro was a bit too enthusiastic about consuming the alcoholic drinks and went completely 'out' at 01.00. Nothing more to deal with. I don't have to worry about that at all, the patient is already taken care of before she falls off her stool, carefully placed on the floor by four ladies, a pillow under her head, a towel and a bucket, plus someone to monitor the most important bodily functions hold (see photo above). An hour later there was not much life in it, but the bar was closing. The help of two motorbike taxi boys was called in. They literally took the girl in their midst, carefully crossing the Soi, neatly into the hotel room. Followed by one of the helpful ladies who had now taken care of her personal belongings.

Of course, the one substantial exercise program that was scheduled never came to fruition….

Franssie has done it so well. You look like a sheik with your own harem. Everything within reach and also spoiled by the ladies.
You will have to cry every time you have to go back to the low countries?

  2. Fransamsterdam says up

Yes, and not only me, the girls too! It is often a long and emotional farewell round. That's why I'm planning to organize a weeping and whining session in a group this time. That strengthens the mutual bond and moreover: 'Shared sorrow is half sorrow.' I'm just looking for an organizer… 🙂

    • Hans Struijlaart says up

I'd be happy to organize those weeping and whining sessions for you. I can handle broken hearts though. Also a bit of self-interest, of course. I don't have such broad shoulders to catch crying girls, but I'll think of something else to comfort them. I am very resourceful in that area. Let us know when you leave Thailand again.

Frans, you really are a boss. More stories like this please.

It's still wonderful to read. This time again an ode to the lively nightlife / nightlife of Pattaya. Frans knows how to tell it in such a way that the reader is eager to visit the locations themselves. I will definitely be doing this soon…

Yes, Frans, if you are pampered in the immediate vicinity of your accommodation, served at your beck and call and can realize all your wishes, then I understand that the motivation for some exercise is actually missing. However, my suggestion for some more exercise came from concern for your physical well-being / health. A number of readers, including me and given the reactions to your stories, there are quite a lot of them, don't want to miss you for the time being and what is much more important, many Thai ladies who always look forward to you to enjoy your company and your financial contributions naturally appreciate very much, of course also want to be able to count on you for a long time to come. Physical exercise is not only good for your health but also gives you a feeling of satisfaction afterwards. Some time ago you asked on Thailand Blog for tips for hotels in Pattaya. Maybe somewhere in the back of your mind a desire for some change? Have fun, French, but be a little careful with your body.

I always like your stories in French. Also the fact that you are generous and let everyone earn.
Still, I think it's irresponsible to let a girl you care about get drunk half to death.

    • Nico B says up

Don't protect an already barfin girl from herself by getting drunk?
French right, you know how the ladies sometimes don't know how to keep size, well, you didn't have to worry about it either.
Your otherwise generous attitude does you credit.

In fact, she hadn't even drunk that much. I suspect this is a case of alcohol intolerance. This is quite common in Thailand. I was once made aware of this by a reader on this blog, after a similar incident with The Girl from Naklua. Since then I have kept it in mind – also out of self-interest, of course – and will never again insist on 'having another one just for fun'. But if you don't know about someone, and that person still wants to play the big boy, the curtain can just fall without you being able to do much about it.
Perhaps as a general tip it can prevent misery: Girls in Thailand (and the rest of Asia) who prefer to drink little or no alcohol usually do not because they are not fun, but because it makes them deathly ill. So don't try to persuade them!

When it comes to hangovers, they're not that knowledgeable. Brufen is better. At a "pain conference" of doctors, the introduction was once jokingly said: Suffering from a hangover? Brufen effervescent works best!

The Wonderful 2 Bar is located on the corner of Soi 13 and Second Road. A short 25 minute walk.

Do you have to travel 9.000 km to lead a sedentary existence (suffering?) 🙂

I wish you good health as you live…..if that is the case…I would quit smoking like crazy…but yes everyone's responsibility. Cheers.

Sorry French. I think you're a very nice guy, I'm from Amsterdam myself and I enjoy your stories, but there's more to this world than soi 13.1 and soi 13.2.?
The way you describe it, you are actually already trapped in a kind of nursing home with a sheltered accommodation and many extras. Aren't you a little too young for that? I'm 61 years old myself, but I might start living in a way like you do when I'm 80 years old. Seems very boring to me personally after 2 weeks I think. I still want to get a little more out of life while I can. I still have so many things on my bucket list that I will be working on them for the next few years. Or have you already completed your entire bucket list? That is also possible of course. And then I better understand your way of life.
Ps I once had a barmaid who was so drunk and hadn't even had much to drink. I won't be taking that anymore. I leave it in the bar. Give my phone number and say call me tomorrow when you feel better. I'm not a nurse who has to go clean up her puke if you're going to take her anyway because you've already paid a barfine. Then I'll take a closer look. Because I also need my exercise badly.

    • Fransamsterdam says up

Thank you for your extensive response. Indeed, I already have a wonderful bucket list, I think, and I fear that when I am 80 there will be no more opportunities for me to live this way of life from time to time. Ten years ago, my greatest wish was to have experienced this at least once in my life, and the rest feels like a gift, also considering my capabilities.

      • KLAUS HARDER says up

Well written. Given my (advanced) age, I have almost completed my bucket list! Just revisit some places in Thailand and Vietnam. Personally, I always enjoy walking around the Pattaya area, looking around, then consuming an ice-cold Tiger somewhere, driven by the temperatures. There is always someone to have a chat with, be it the lady behind the bar or another "grey pigeon". So an older person, also with gray hair on top of his head. Very often done something with a fellow tourist … .. rented a van, there are always some bar ladies who get up early in the morning and want to come along …. and then somewhere to a tourist spot. Look around a bit and come back in the evening. After all, the ladies want to make money. The ladies, by the way, are not social drinkers like me, they do it for the merit, they earn from every lady drink. So, the more they drink, the richer they become. And then there are some who can't handle alcohol well, even experienced it themselves, and there are those who drink you and me under the table, if necessary. Long story short, I don't really do anything spectacular in Pattaya, just live my day in a pleasant and amusing way, I love it! (Sorry) ;O)

Really enjoy doing what you feel like French. I myself visit almost everything on foot. Most bar complexes can be reached within 7 minutes from soi 15. I don't go behind with such a moped taxi. At most a baht bus back. Still have fun, but that's entrusted to you.
