The iconic Wat Phra Mahathat Woramahawihan in Nakhon Si Thammarat should be on the UNESCO World Heritage List, according to a working group that has initiated the procedure for this.

On Monday, all required documents were handed over to governor Siripat of the province, who will submit them to the Unesco committee of Thailand. The application then goes to the cabinet and, if an agreement is reached, to the Unesco World Heritage Center in France.

Dating back to the early thirteenth century, the temple is said to have stored a tooth of the Buddha.
