It didn't happen last time: the climb to the big Buddha of Khao Tao. From Khao Takiab, five kilometers south of Hua Hin, the golden statue is clearly visible.

The climb is far from easy and not doable for the disabled unless on a palanquin. From the end of the Turtle Temple of Khao Tao, a steep and winding path leads up. It leads past a number of huts and cottages where local monks live. They sometimes have a fabulous view of the bay, up to Khao Takiab.

At the top of the cape stands the Big Buddha, beautifully executed in gold, or at least in gold-colored paint. We didn't see anyone on Saturday afternoon. From a shelter at the top you can admire the statue and its surroundings. A little lower we see the remains of a kind of cable car, along which cement and sand were brought up.

Finally I saw the image up close, although it took a lot of sweat.
