The official population of Thailand
In an article in the Royal Gazette of March 10, the Central Registry Office reports that on December 31, 2020 - according to the latest census - the official population of Thailand was 66.186.727 inhabitants.
There are 33.353.816 Thai women and 31.874.308 Thai men. Of the 958.607 non-Thai, 501.224 are men and 457.383 are women.
Bangkok has the largest population of 77 provinces with a population of 5.588.222, split between 2.570.872 males and 2.917.004 females, with 100.346 non-Thai.
The least populated province is Ranong with 194.372, divided into 179.156 Thai and 15.216 non-Thai.
Nice to know that there are more Thai women than men!
The Netherlands also has more women than men*. A “surplus of women” is normal, they are getting older. If we look at the breakdown by age group, you see that more boys are born than girls at birth and the turning point is somewhere halfway between 30 and 40 years. So if you would like to rid Thailand or the Netherlands of a surplus of women, it is best to choose a more mature woman, the older the better. Or hook up with a nice young man, that is of course also possible. 😉

Bangkok has many more inhabitants, but a large part is not registered in Bangkok.
Furthermore, suburbs such as Nonthaburi, Samut Phratan, Pathum Thani and Salaya, which are actually part of the metropolis, no longer count because they are located in other provinces.
Indeed Bert, other sources and literature mention 9 to 11.000.000 inhabitants for Bangkok. Could that be possible?
Who am I to question those official figures from the Central Registration Office.
But I still wonder how they came about. Hopefully not based on the data in the tabien ban of the inhabitants.
For example, in our village I have never heard or seen anything about a census. And I've been living here continuously for almost 4 years.
In the blue book of a neighbor, besides herself, her older brother and another sister are listed, who have been living in Bangkok with their family for at least 30 years. Her son is also still there, while he has been living and working in Chonburi with his wife for years. Another neighbor lives alone while one of her sons is still registered with her. He lives about 500 meters away with his wife and 3 children. I assume he also has a tabien ban for that residence. Double counts are inevitable in my opinion because it will probably be no different for many other residents.
This is the number of inhabitants according to the live inhabitant counter.
I have no idea how reliable it is either.
Thailand Population (LIVE) Pax: 69.922.621
https://www.worldometers.info/world-population/thailand-population/
Seems to me that the one from the Central Registration Office is reliable. The data of all registered persons is taken from the population records of the municipalities. And then it does not matter if one does not live at an address but elsewhere because it is only counted once, in addition, every Thai citizen has a unique ID number and because of registration in the computer no double counting or people can be forgotten.
The numbers of Worldometers, for example, come from the UN. When I look at Wiki, I see the foreigners registered by nationality with a total of 2,6 million in 2010 and according to a report from 2019 at 4,9 million, of which 3,9 from the surrounding countries.
What the Thais understand by the rounded 1,0 million non-Thai, I think, includes the border residents who do live in Thailand but do not have Thai nationality and are stateless, rounded 500.000 and 110.000 professionals (working expats) and 100.000 refugees and that leaves a group of foreign pensioners of 300.000.
The figures of Thailand, 66,2 million and the UN, 69,9 million, compare you have a difference of 3,7 million. This is quite in line with the foreigners from surrounding countries of 3,9 million according to the UN estimate.
