End of COVID-19 Prediction by Pipat Ratchakitprakarn

It is remarkable to say the least that the Minister of Tourism and Sports Pipat Ratchakitprakarn makes a prediction about the COVID-19 virus.

Not hindered by any medical knowledge, he expects that by Songkran in mid-April, Thailand will have little or no problems with the COVID-19 virus. Pipat attributes this to the hottest month (April) of the year, which this virus cannot withstand and would therefore strongly decrease. In short, another optimistic sound from the corner of the Ministry of Tourism! In addition, he expected that the "Chinese friends" would have come up with a vaccine by then.

In addition, Pipat expected that everything would be back to normal within six months, but the virus would increase sharply in the US. What a knowledge this minister exudes.

He praised Thailand for its brilliant response to the virus crisis and the kingdom's renowned health facilities, respected and appreciated around the world!

The minister also had good news for hoteliers, sellers and traders in the tourist areas. Government measures could possibly help these groups. Nothing concrete has emerged yet. He also expected the tourism industry to rise to 20 percent of GDP this year until the virus took a setback.

In short, a cheerful view of the future, not hindered by any knowledge!

I often read that viruses do not survive when it gets warmer.
I suspect that will be the case, but there are of course also many places where it is not really warm and ideal for the virus to survive. Just think of all the places where air conditioning is used.

But then I also think, if the virus does not survive at higher temperatures, how come it thrives so well in a human body of 37 degrees?

I heard from a doctor yesterday that the virus (including other viruses, except for a certain intestinal virus) can only survive for max. 24 hours outside the human (or animal) body.

      • RonnyLatYa says up

        Only 24 hours ?
24 hours in this case is an eternity for a virus I think.

We have asked the question related to human body at [email protected]. If we get an answer, we'll let you know here.

In a flu virus, a thick protein layer protects the core of the virus. Only when the virus enters the body, for example in the respiratory tract where a higher temperature prevails, does that layer melt and the virus starts to spread via host cells. Strangely enough, influenza needs low temperatures (think winter) to survive outdoors. When the temperature rises, the protective layer in the outside air melts. The virus no longer finds a suitable host and dies. There is a lot of uncertainty about corona. Will the virus behave the same way or will Corona survive the warmer spring and summer? Parts of China, Japan and Korea have a climate similar to Europe. However, what surprises me is Singapore (never lower temperatures than 17 or 18 degrees) where Corona survives. Comparing corona with the flu seems very premature to me. Given the limited information about this virus, I will not venture into it for the time being

      • RonnyLatYa says up

I think once in the body and the protein layer has disappeared, the virus is also exposed to temperatures of 37 degrees. Even if it burrows into host cells.
Well, your explanation is probably correct and I have no knowledge of viruses at all. It was just a thought I had.
        Still, thanks for the explanation.

      • RonnyLatYa says up

Perhaps an answer to your Singapore concern
“There are COVID cases from Singapore, but almost everyone there lives in dry, cool air through air conditioning. Air conditioners seem ideal for virus transmission.”

After the minister of health, we now have a second clown. The government in Thailand is competing for the title of the largest circus.

    • Johnny B.G says up

You do know that Thailand is a circus and illusionist country, right?

Nothing is what it seems and everything has to be taken with a grain of salt and you have to nuance from there.
Truth or not, it doesn't change the situation anyway.

The minister's statements are not entirely strange. The RIVM in the Netherlands also predicts that the epidemic will be over by the summer, because the virus will not survive the heat.
(The (nmm misplaced and oversimplified) comment from Ron is therefore very short-sighted.)

    • l.low size says up

In the summer people no longer live so close to each other and therefore less risk of infection
The houses are open more often and people go outside thanks to the summer.

Of course, all of us will have doubts about whether this Minister of Tourism is correct in his prediction.
What study has this good man had to utter such a prophecy, which at first I thought more wishful thinking.
Until this morning on the Mediathek of the German ZDF I watched a talk show by Markus Lanz (26-02) where a well-known German prof.dr.dr. virologist was a guest, and gave an almost similar view.
This virologist, like other colleagues, agreed that the Coronavirus also had its origin in the animal world, and that it could well be that the virus disappeared by itself at higher temperatures.
According to him, although medical science likes to praise itself for this, the so-called SARS, which was prevalent a few years ago, has also suddenly disappeared with the rise in temperature.
Perhaps, which of course is no further guarantee for the same disappearance of the Coronavirus, Minister Pipat Ratchapitprakarn may have read or heard something from experts before announcing his alleged wishful prediction.
Let's hope it is, and if there are still readers who prefer to visit the walking street in Pattaya without Chinese viewer parades, perhaps now is the time.

Eric Snijder, professor of virology at Leiden UMC, tells a completely different story. He is clearly less optimistic. He talks about four variants that can occur all year round. He cannot say whether a higher temperature and more sun (UV) light kills corona. In short, the experts can't figure it out. I take sounds from China itself with a grain of salt given the censorship. Just think of the doctor who rang the bell and the way the Chinese government handled him.

      • John Chiang Rai says up

Dear hk77, Just like this professor Eric Snijder you mentioned, this German professor virologist was not 100% sure that the virus would automatically disappear with higher temperatures.
He only thought that it was quite possible, just like with SARS, that this virus could also suddenly disappear with the arrival of summer and higher temperatures.
The SARS of which he went on to say that medical science likes to pretend that they have expelled this virus, was suddenly no longer there with the arrival of summer.
Hence, and because of the fact that this German Prof. virologist did not consider this possibility unthinkable, we should hold back a little bit with the complete ridicule of this Thai Minister of Tourism.
Who knows, he might be moved from like-thinking Virologists to this prediction, which of course is never 100% certain, to make this prediction.
I have a little more confidence, than in the many reactions that ridicule everything, at least in the verdict of these truly expert virologists.
        Gr. John.

And all schools will be closed tomorrow.
Or is this not Thailand .. As long as they can cover everything up.

He clearly wasn't in the front row when the gray matter was handed out.
Partly because of this, he belongs perfectly in the list of those who are now in charge.
