The Facebook page of the Dutch embassy in Bangkok mentions an exclusive interview with ambassador Kees Rade and his wife, which recently appeared on the YouTube channel “Meet the Ambassadors”.

It is quite a nice video, albeit in English, but it is not specifically intended for Dutch viewers, but more for Thais and other foreigners.

See below the entertaining video of about 45 minutes:

Indeed quite a nice video, here and there the imperfections have their charm. For example, I miss an introduction to who the interviewer is. Had to smile that ambassador Kees wanted to let her go first, but she assumed that he would go first. Seems like a new channel because I can't find other videos or a website yet. That will certainly continue to develop.

It is appreciated that people have taken and received so much time. A nice tour and everyone enthusiastic about the monitor lizards (เหี้ย). 🙂 I just don't agree with ambassador Kees about the LGHTBI+: Thailand has a reputation for being tolerant, but that is not the same as respect. In everyday life, non-hetro people still run into all sorts of things. Both on the labor market and indeed also on marriage. Thailand is now working on a 'registered partnership', so that a couple can obtain a kind of but not entirely the same status/rights as a straight couple. It is a step forward but there is still room for improvement.

Oh and those Thai tongue twisters… maybe the forthcoming successor will master the language in a few years. Can they come back with the program in about 2-3 years? 🙂
