Home » Background » Fear of serious environmental damage after ferry accident near Koh Samui
Last weekend, a ferry capsized off the coast of Koh Samui during stormy weather. The Ministry of National Resources and Environment will sue the ferry company for damage to the environment.
The ferry loaded with 90 tons of rubbish and a number of trucks disappeared into the sea about 5 nautical miles from Samui Island (Surat Thani), unfortunately also causing fatalities.
Mr. Chatuporn Burutpat, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Environment fears that the waste will certainly have an impact on the environment and has engaged the Ministry of Marine and Coastal Resources and the Pollution Control Department to investigate the damage. Especially during this time there are many sea turtles that come back to lay eggs.
In addition to the waste, oil pollution is also feared from the ferry, but also from the trucks that were on board and disappeared into the sea. The ministry intends to sue RajaFerry Company Limited for the damages incurred. The company was in violation because sailing during the storm season is not allowed.

Strong language from Mr. Chatuporn Burutpat, but he can better ensure that the boat is salvaged, moreover, I do not understand that the boat could sail, last January sailed with the ferry from Pattaya to KohLarn and there were about 6 people from the police/army checked whether everyone was wearing a life jacket and also took pictures of it as proof.
So if those guys are there, they can also stop a sailing, but yes with a few baths they will not have been on the quay at the right time.
Today another deceased was recovered, which they found in the toilet
I think it was found, but not recovered?
Not such a fresh story, but it seemed to be quite a lady, and because she was already decomposing, she had grown even taller. They can't get her through the narrow door of the toilet she was found in…
Very sad….
Arjen.
