As a former marine, I feel the need to express my condolences to the victims and families of 53 Indonesian marines who lost their lives in the sunken submarine KRI Nanggala 402.

Yes, it is correct that it has nothing to do with Thailand, but it concerns people who could also have lived in the street with you or me. You mustn't think about the hell they went into before the final judgment was passed.

Fortunately, so many people around the world feel that way and the reactions to this tragedy are overwhelming. Go to the Facebook page #prayfornanggala402 and read the many, sometimes heartbreaking messages of sympathy.

The Commander of the Submarine Service of the Royal Dutch Navy wrote the following on that page:

“Submariners both love and hate the sea. It hides us, it protects us, it keeps us out of harms way but it is also our greatest fear, our greatest enemy. The thoughts and prayers of the Netherlands submarine service are with our brothers in arms of KRI Nanggala and their families.

No words for... what this crew has experienced... indescribably incomprehensible in these modern times. This is even worse than losing someone in Corona times without being able to say goodbye because this crew is without family friends children have to die.
Absolutely can't bear to think about it...; it's a pity that the press in Europe has paid so little attention to this terrible accident

Many condolences to the families involved

Unfortunately, we do not yet know what caused this accident.
From what I've read so far, the sub is broken in three.
It may have happened so fast that the crew didn't notice it, an explosion by a torpedo in or right next to the sub during the exercise.
If the sub may be salvaged, it may still be possible to find out what the cause may have been.
In any case, it is now a difficult time for the family members.
That's why RIP to the crew.

      Jan Beute.

I don't think the sub will be salvaged. It's going to be a seaman's grave and for the best.
