No, I did not know that this Belgian national holiday existed, but then I am not Belgian, but Dutch. I was made aware of it by the poster on the Facebook page of the gentlemen's club Babylon here in Pattaya, where it is celebrated with free Belgian fries.

When I looked, 40 people were “interested”, but whether they will all also celebrate the party in Babylon is still the question. I don't know Babylon (yet), but I have a strong suspicion that not every Belgian will feel very much at home in this establishment with quite a few willing ladies.

Let's see if our southern neighbors can join us somewhere to celebrate the national holiday. I didn't find any more in Pattaya, so why not go to Bangkok? I was also disappointed, I only found two restaurants that make an offer on the occasion of the Belgian national day.

Le Café des Stagiaires, in collaboration with the Belgian Club of Thailand, has a kind of party where free (Belgian) beer is served. If you dine that day in the Belga Rooftop Bar and Brasserie, you will be offered a 33 cl Duvel to toast Belgium together.

The Belgian embassy does not mention this special day, so I cannot say whether they are organizing anything. It may be in the Newsletter that is sent to Belgians in Thailand, provided you are registered as a Belgian at the embassy. So I don't get that Newsletter.

All in all a bit scant, I think, aren't Belgians in Thailand eager to celebrate their national holiday with pride of their country?

    I think they would rather toast to Flanders. But any excuse for a pint is of course welcome. 😉

    Hi Gringo,

    July 21 is indeed the official national holiday of Belgians… Most Belgians may not even know what exactly should be commemorated. On July 21, 1831, Leopold I of Saxe Coburg Gotha took the oath in Brussels as the first monarch of this artificial kingdom, which now seems to have entered its last phase of existence…. As a convinced Republican, all this leaves me and many others more than cold...

      @Lung Jan:
      Then a visit to Babylon to warm up isn't such a bad idea after all, 5555

    Nice if you read those old messages on wiki, in 1830 the Dutch Army was chased from the streets of Brussels. That date may no longer be celebrated because peace was concluded with the Netherlands in 1880.

    Gringo,

    Maybe a fun fact.

    Today, July 20, is also the "Day of the Navy", later "Day of the Navy". (Belgian Navy)

    Speech by the Belgian ambassador Philippe Kridelka on the occasion of 21 July.

    By the way, he will leave Thailand in August and will be succeeded by Ambassador Sybille de Cartier (if I understood the name correctly)
