If you are from an older generation and are a fan of Santana, the song “Maria, mariaaaa” might well have been your favourite. If you are a bit younger and "Black Magic Woman" appeals more to you, then it shows good taste.

Either way, get excited again as the grandmaster guitarist will be serenading Bangkok on February 29th with a performance at the ImpactArena, Muang Thong Thani, where he will be joined by local rock legends Carabao.

Santana

Santana rose to fame in the 1969s and XNUMXs, when few Latino musicians in America performed in the burgeoning rock scene. His first major performance was at the Woodstock Festival in XNUMX. At that time he was still unknown to the general public, but after an eleven-minute instrumental rendition of “Soul Sacrifice” his guitar playing quickly became legendary.

In more recent history, the 2000 album “Supernatural” was marked by collaborations with artists such as Rob Thomas, Eric Clapton, Lauryn Hill, Wyclef Jean and Cee Lo Green. The album won 9 Grammy awards and "Maria, Maria" became a classic.

Santana made history in Thailand with sold out shows dating back to 1994, 1996, 2003, 2011 and 2013. In that last year 2013, Santana and Carabao performed together to the great appreciation of Thai rock fans.

Carabao

Carabao was founded by Thai students in the early 1980s. The name means buffalo in Tagalog, perhaps a homage to the Philippines where the band members met. The name is the symbol of perseverance and strength in working class life, which is the theme of much of Carabao music. Both the themes and the music, a mix of Northeastern Thai folk with Latin beats, quickly caught on with the Thais, making Carabao the most popular and successful Thai band of all time.

Performance on Leap Day

Now you can see these two legendary phenomena perform together at the Impact Arena, Muang Thong Thani on February 9, 2016, Ticket prices range from 2,000-5,000 THB. Go to the Ticket Major website or call 02-262-3838 for reservations. Keep up with BEC Tero on their Facebook page.

  1. George says up

I am from an older generation, built in 53 last century. With the first three albums now on my shelf as CDs with extras, I still play them regularly. This despite the more than 5000 from other artists. What is commendable about Snatana is that he has continuously tried to innovate and broaden his horizons with more and less success (not commercial success intended). That's only true for great artists. But songs like Soul sacrifice, Toussaint Overture, Jingo, Evil ways, and Everybody's everything mean much more to me than Maria Maria from Supernatural. That CD contains more interesting songs than this hit. The concert with Carabao once seen in Antwerp is pricey from 2000 Baht.

George: If you don't know the concert in tanglewood 1979 yet, I would definitely give it a listen (eg on youtube)
