Although a lot has changed in the way in which herring is caught, Vlaggetjesdag has continued to exist. Flag Day Scheveningen now follows the sale of the first keg of new herring. During that day there is plenty to do for young and old in and around the harbor of Scheveningen.

Flag Day in Scheveningen is a fun and cultural event that celebrates that herring can be caught again. Scheveningen has of course always been a real fishing town and the arrival of large quantities of herring was of vital importance to the population and the economy. Flag Day is nowadays mainly a pleasant day in which the folklore of the past is still evoked. All kinds of fun games are played, there are music performances and many other activities.

We like to continue this tradition in Hua Hin. That is why everyone is welcome to come and eat Haring on June 22 at SAY CHEESE in Hua Hin – we start at 17:00 PM.

Connoisseurs say “it is better than last year”. At SAY CHEESE you can eat and order herring fresh from the knife. Herring in the country, doctor aside! Yes, herring is packed with nutrients such as Omega3, vitamins and proteins that are ideal for lowering your cholesterol level and reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease. So start Saturday 22 June with a healthy herring! Haringhappen is one of the top 10 most famous Dutch traditions, next to eating oil balls and rusk with mice.

How can I distinguish Dutch new from old in Thailand?
And is there anything to predict the price in Thailand?

Connoisseurs say: he is better than last year….what nonsense because he has not yet landed.
Last year's herring was of great quality, in contrast to that of the year before. Hopefully the new one is of the same quality as the old one…we'll find out.

Old, new…. Yesterday I ate a herring in Amsterdam, so delicious, shiny with fat, not a trace of tears. Outing, sour, remained untouched, because superfluous.

It just turned out to be the "old" herring. We can only hope that the new one comes close!!
