Queen Sirikit

Sirikit, born Mom Rajawongse Sirikit Kitiyakara on August 12, 1932, is the wife of the late King Bhumibol Adulyadej. She was Queen of Thailand from 1950 to 2016. She is also the mother of the current Thai King Vajiralongkorn (Rama X).

Sirikit was born to Nakkhatra Mangala, the second prince of Chanthaburi II (1897-1953) and Luang Bua Kitiyakara (1909-1999), a great-granddaughter of King Chulalongkorn. She grew up in Europe, because her father was appointed as Thai ambassador, successively in England, Denmark and France. She met her future husband Bhumibol in Paris when her father was working there as an ambassador.

Sirikit had one son and three daughters with Bhumibol. On July 21, 2012, Sirikit suffered a cerebral hemorrhage. She has hardly appeared in public since then. When Bhumibol passed away on October 13, 2016, she became the Queen Mother.
