Changes in Pattaya
Many changes are taking place in Thailand. Both locally and nationally. Any Thailand visitor or farang need only think of the last 10 years to notice the differences, at least in certain areas.
In order not to dig too deep, a number of things can be mentioned that everyone can observe. The beautiful entrance gate from the Pattaya Nua along the dolphin roundabout to the Beach Road has disappeared. It almost gave something festive to go to the beach like this. A good initiative was the hop on, hop off bus, which has disappeared. Unfortunately due to the random driving times. The agreement with the municipality was that the bus would run certain routes at fixed times. That did not happen with the Thai "insight". The story went that there would be too many traffic jams or the buses would be broken!
There was also a special attraction, that you could make an underwater trip with a yellow submarine. First the people were taken to a pontoon further out to sea and then transferred to this submarine. The expectation of crystal clear water with colorful tropical fish, which we would sail past, was disappointing. With a little wind, the water became cloudy, even at greater depths. Maybe the boat was sold to the Thai Navy?
The demolition and construction frenzy in certain areas is striking. Illegal structures are demolished, but sometimes little is done with the clearcutting. Striking are the number of 7-Eleven stores, which are rising at an enormous speed. However, less pleasant for people with a beautiful condo and a view of the sea, where suddenly another building is put in front. View is gone and the price plummets. Legally there is nothing you can do about it.
Sad to see the newly renovated Pattaya Beach in 1 day (Tuesday, April 2) again so destroyed by the huge rain showers. The day before, an extensive “photo shoot” took place for commercials.
That's life, but there is still a long way to go before it becomes a calm, balanced city. But also for Thailand as a whole!
And do not forget:
The large amounts of waste, rubble, plastic all over the city. I have been coming to pattaya since 2007 but it is getting worse and worse. Last March I went to Hua Hin for a few days. A whole other world almost.
Do the 7-11 stores obstruct the sea view from the condos?
They won't be that high anyway. But indeed you never have to walk further than 100 meters or you will find a 7-11 or family market.
New condos are built in front of existing condos. no 7/11
I have been coming to Pattaya since 1986 , and yes , then there is a lot ! changed ……….
In the Netherlands, people complain when it gets too blue or too yellow from the many AHs and Jumbos in the big cities, but a little more competition would of course be good.
