Thailand has the highest gun death rate in Asia

Anyone who thinks that Thailand is the country where everyone smiles at you, is sweet and kind will be disappointed. Behind all that kindness hides a dark truth. Thailand is also a country with disturbing levels of gun violence. Shootings and bizarre murders are an almost weekly ritual.

With 7,48 gun deaths per 100.000 inhabitants in 2013, according to the University of Washington, bullets kill twice as many people as in gun-crazy America. The country also has the highest gun death rate in Asia. Bullet deaths are 50 percent higher than in the Philippines, at least before President Duterte ordered his compatriots to kill drug offenders.

The above text comes from an article by Ate Hoekstra in Nieuwe Revu. Ate is a Thailand connoisseur par excellence and an excellent journalist, so it is certainly an article worth reading: How do you get a gun in Bangkok?

Is it true for gun homicides per capita. I think even in 3rd place worldwide, after Colombia and South Africa.

Yet again a failure for Thailand to have this honor (most gun deaths in Asia and third place in the world).
As with the number of road deaths (most in the world), it remains a matter of mentality. Most Thais can't make a risk analysis: what happens if I do this? The cause and effect is unknown to them, which leads to so many deaths in traffic and in quarrels (firearm deaths).

Is not new, New Revu certainly does not come with a first. Thailandblog pointed out this phenomenon much earlier. It is good, of course, to continue to draw attention to the Thai clash of arms, being one of the dark sides of this country. There is a lot of violence in Thailand.

Let's put things into perspective on the basis of the extremely informative link that was recently added to the article about the development of the Thai population. There we don't find 'firearms' listed separately as the cause of death, but I assume they fall under 'violence' – violence – and whether you are shot, stabbed or beaten doesn't really matter.
Thailand then ranks 73rd worldwide (out of 172 countries), with 6.98 per 100.000.
    Laos at 75 with 6.66.
    Cambodia at 78 with 6.48.
The difference with these last two countries is therefore negligible.
India is at 83 with 5.75, together with New Guinea at 81 with 5.87, not really much safer either.
Vietnam is doing a lot better, 108th with 3.24.
The Philippines 25th with 18.56, closely followed by
Myanmar (isn't that also Asia?), in 29th place with 15.29.
    .
My conclusion: Thailand is in the middle both globally and regionally, and does not deviate significantly from what could be expected on the basis of sociological, demographic and geographical data.

I don't think it's strange and then you have people who immediately start to put things into perspective here.
Well, nothing, because we're only talking about gun deaths here.
When you open the newspaper, the murders committed with knives or just pure manslaughter hit you just as hard as those caused by gun violence.
No, it is certainly not as peaceful as some would like it to appear in the Amazing Thailand land off smiles guide.
And then all those dead tourists are usually dismissed as suicides.
