'State casinos in Thailand'

There is good news for those who sometimes take a chance. The Thai government may be planning to launch a “trial balloon” in the form of a casino in Pattaya, for example.

It will be a while before this becomes concrete, but still. Recently a number of Koreans were arrested because they offered various gambling games via computers. However, if it does go ahead, the Thai and Farangs will no longer have to travel to casinos in Cambodia and Macau.

In Macau (see photo), the gambling industry lost a lot of turnover last year and this year as well. Due to a major anti-corruption campaign by the Chinese government, casino revenues have plummeted. Big gamblers stayed away. Income this year was already a third below the level of last year, which had already fallen considerably by then. Much will depend on how the economic situation develops. Not even the great China can escape the general economic downturn.

This is also one of the reasons that Thailand is trying to generate some extra income with a state casino, now that income in other areas is lacking. A casino will also attract tourists. In any case, it's worth a try.

The end of a (not very fanatical) Buddhist country?
In any case, it is now clear why Pattaya and Phuket need to be wiped clean.
Given the high level of corruption in Thailand, I strongly doubt whether the Casino will bring in much for the state.
I think a lot of money will disappear without a trace.

Macau has indeed had to give up a lot. Smoking is no longer allowed in the casinos, only at high-limit tables in a separate room. I've been there recently and few people still like it.
I would say make smoking section non smoking. I also found that the food in the casinos has become quite expensive in a period of 1 year.
