Posttels in Bangkok

December 8 2018

Do you know what a “posthtel” is? Until recently I certainly didn't know, but I have discovered the word "discovered". If you've never heard of it, let me tell you, that one posthtel is a luxury hostel, where the style and comfort of a boutique hotel is combined with the price and atmosphere of a hostel.

According to Lonely Planet, the rise of the poshtels is an irresistible trend all over the world.

trend

Lonely Planet: “An ever-increasing number of budget-conscious but discerning travelers expect something radically better than a bedworm-infested cage in a dingy dorm room full of snoring backpackers; they want good value yet sophisticated and unique places to stay. Poshtels are often located in intriguing old buildings, with an emphasis on design and offering spacious, clean rooms, freebies and perks, cool bars, top-notch restaurants and maybe even a rooftop lounge or pool – all at an affordable price.”

I came across the term for this new kind of hostel in a nice article on the website of The Big Chilli, entitled: “Heritage buildings transferred into poshtels for flashpackers”. There will be other types of poshtels, but the emphasis in this story is on poshtels, which are located in buildings that were no longer used for their original purpose.

Examples

The story begins with the Prince Theater, which opened in 1912 as a Chinese Opera House and later became a movie theater. Now it is a poshtel named Prince Theater Heritage Stay Bangkok. Not far from there you will find The House of Phraya Jasaen, a boutique hotel, which consists of seven old shophouses

Other poshtels are mentioned in the article, such as Inn a Day, Sala Rattanakosin, The Canal Hostel and more.

Read the article and see the photos www.thebigchilli.com/ and for details such as price, location, etc., search via Google: poshtels in Bangkok.

  1. Beautiful Noi says up

In Bangkok they come up with a new concept every month because the city is bursting with tourists.
Do you really think you get a "NASA" foam mattress because you pay more in a hostel where they put some plants and called it a "Lodge" instead of a guesthouse? The occupancy in the hotels is so MEGA that you always have to wait and see whether the cleaning crew has had a good or a bad day.
I get it, a clean sheet does something, but don't let yourself be fooled.
